http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_DO_NOT_CALL_COMPLAINTS?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-09-16-08-30-58WASHINGTON (AP) -- So much for silence from telemarketers at the cherished dinner hour, or any other hour of the day.
Complaints to the government are up sharply about unwanted phone solicitations, raising questions about how well the federal "do-not-call" registry is working. The biggest category of complaint: those annoying prerecorded pitches called robocalls that hawk everything from lower credit card interest rates to new windows for your home.
Robert Madison, 43, of Shawnee, Kan., says he gets automated calls almost daily from "Ann, with credit services," offering to lower his interest rates.
"I am completely fed up," Madison said in an interview. "I've repeatedly asked them to take me off their call list." When he challenges their right to call, the solicitors become combative, he said. "There's just nothing that they won't do."

(41,694 posts)They just spoof their number and switch to new ones as soon as they get caught. Ann or Heather or Rachel are part of a scam operation.

(5,924 posts)about a "card services" number that calls my cell phone 4 to 5 times a day. I stopped answering weeks ago but they keep calling. I found an online complaint blog about this number, and read that the caller sometimes misrepresents itself as Wells Fargo. If anyone can nail these fuckers, Lori Swanson can!

(10,021 posts)pay $100 for 1,000 mins and it's good until you use up the mins. I didn't have the phone a solid week when I got about
15 calls - only 1 friend had my number. I'm wondering if T-Mobile is calling my number just to use up my minutes. The couple of times I have answered just to see who is calling, the caller hung up every time. Anyone else have this problem?

(25,406 posts)fake last 4 digits of SSN, and when they ask for the CC customer service number I give them either the FBI's 800 number, or an 800 number for a phone sex line. It wastes their time for 10 or 15 minutes and gives me a sense of satisfaction when they get pissed off.
And I also report them to the FCC, every single time.
