Mitt Romney tells 533 lies in 30 weeks, Steve Benen documents them

I’ve written about or linked to a great deal here “chronicling Mitt’s mendacity” — to borrow Steven Benen’s phrase.

Mitt Romney says many, many things that are not true. He says this despite being in possession of the correct facts of the matter.

Which is to say that Mitt Romney lies. A lot. He lies more than any other national candidate for office in my lifetime. And I was born before the Nixon administration.

This is documented. Proven. Validated, verified, demonstrated, catalogued and quantified. Mitt Romney lies.

Here are 30 — 30! — of Benen’s weekly “chronicling” posts. These are all backed up and sourced. These are not assertions, interpretations or allegations. These are facts, actual instances.

I don't know but that would make sense. She finds information on her show that others don't. Maraya1969 Sep 2012 #10

It's a Mormon thing. It's called Lying for the Lord. And it's a tenet of the Mormon faith that, Mormons think, gives them to the right to tell you a bald-faced lie, so long as it's a lie that somehow furthers the Mormon cause.

What else to call the Mormon's laughable statement today that their posthumous baptism last year of President Obama's mother was a "rare" mistake that might have been done by "pranksters."

i just can't think of any other reason that he continually lies without any shame whatsoever. gets caught in a lie and goes on to repeat that lie over and over and over. he thinks a mitt presidency will be the fulfillment of some sacred prophecy; he believes he is a god.

38. God the father is only one of millions or endless Gods who are all basically relatives, fathers, brothers, grand-gods and so forth to our own God. If we're worthy, we get to join the God club too.

remember his wife saying "it's our turn"?
not that i wouldn't agree that his lying is pathological. GAWD forbid this person gets to be president.

the behavior of Romney.

Another interesting idea that goes a long way towards providing an explanation for his behavior was brought out by a news commentator (Bill Mahr, I think). He said that Romney is living in a reality that denies the presence of The Information Age, which the rest of the planet has come to embrace. It used to be that politicians could lie and get away with it because it was impossible for their words to ever catch up with them. But modern day communication media has now made it so that whatever the politicians do or say is immediately transmitted to the entire planet (whether they are interested in listening, or not).

Every speech they make is now fact checked almost before their lips have closed at the end, and the public is usually exposed to both 'versions' of the facts at the same time (Faux News excluded). And whatever they say at the moment, follows them around like a lost puppy, wherever they go.

So from that we can say that Romney is delusional because he believes that nothing he says has consequences. That alone may be the biggest reason why his campaign is sputtering and belching smoke, instead of hitting on all cylinders.

my card was canceled due to a merchant error. So I went in to get in to get a replacement card and the very nice agent Irionically said "Oh,Sorry, I lied". I replied "That's fine, Mitt Romney does it all the time".

He laughed, but I couldn't tell if it was out of politeness or agreement.
