they only care about Rump staying in power?
If people cant go to the polls and the USPS is crippled, what can red states do to prevent the election from being completed?
Lets please now assume republicans care nothing about the law, OK...
What is the WORST case scenario?

(62,444 posts)I'm sorry to disappoint you, but if any states don't hold elections, then they don't get Representatives (or Senators for those seats in contention) to determine the outcome of the Electoral College or, if insufficient electors, the result of the election.
I don't know what you mean by "prevent the election from being completed". There's no deadlock condition. If a candidate fails to win enough of the electors, then it goes to Congress to decide. If any states have vacancies in Congress at that time, then it's simply tough shit for them.

(38,187 posts)There is no "assume" to it.
We already know, for certain, that they care nothing about the laws.

(6,144 posts)I believe the law says that a majority of the electoral college is needed to elect the president, and the vice-president.
If a bunch of red states decide not to have elections, they won't have a say in the electoral college voting that is held in December unless the are able to select electors without holding an election.
This is supposedly possible, but would be political suicide for any state where Republicans did this.
Remember, there are a lot of Senators, and the entire House up for election this fall, not to mention state Governors, Senators, and House members, and countless local and county offices to be voted on.
No states would be willing to absorb the wrath of an electorate that was denied the right to vote.
The elections will be held, because the alternative is chaos and destruction.

(31,106 posts)roadblocks for that to happen, that will overwhelm the individual states, right?
I mean if before one out of four voters voted by mail and now it is 3 out of 4, the USPS and the states election system is not going to be prepared for that, right?
Just mailing out the ballots alone, unless people can PRINT their own at home?
