Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Tuesday night stood by the biting comments he made to top White House COVID-19 task force official Dr. Anthony Fauci earlier in the day about the doctors opinion that it would be premature to reopen the country right now.
I dont question Dr. Faucis motives, the GOP senator told Fox News host Martha MacCallum, also describing the doctor as a good person who wants whats best for the country.
But hes an extremely cautious person, and I dont think any of these experts are omniscient, Paul added. I think that they have a basis of knowledge, but when you prognosticate about the future or when you advocate for things dramatic and drastic, like closing all the schools, you should look at all the information.
Paul argued that we really need to have competition among the experts, pointing to British epidemiologist Neil Fergusons projection that 2.2 million people would die from COVID-19 within as an example of a health professional offering faulty information.

Competition among the experts..................what the fuck does that mean in his libertarian BS mindset.............this isn't some fucking competition...............the fucking virus doesn't give a shit about a competition.................and this "guy" is a senator...........and he's only worried about competition...........

(22,121 posts)being all tough and so forth, on Dr. Fauci? Look at who he has to work with, rump.
You couldn't ask for a more worthless and incompetent person to work with, than rump.
But, instead, paul the scumbag had to rattle his saber and sound tough. I guess that being one of the republican senators in Congress, who have literally done nothing, except sitting on their damn hands, are getting tired of being worthless.

(6,110 posts)That was the figure I recall earlier from some of the models the experts were working on.

So yes, we could still see millions of deaths.

(7,947 posts)... is one I wouldn't listen to.
Rand Paul must be one bad doctor. He actually had Covid, and exposed his colleagues while he thought he had it.
And even after living through it, he has no care for everyone else who has it or might get it.
It is almost unbelievable that he can be so callous and cynical. And as for "libertarian", he and his Super-l'tarian father do not believe in liberty for WOMEN, who are, after all, half the population.
And no true libertarian would slavishly support Trump, who is so clearly against our liberties-- threatening to jail reporters comes to mind.

(23,953 posts)i really doubt he's talking peer review and research grant applications here
seems more like a call for marketing, advertising certain positions and their main proponents
which should fit nicely with POTUS' apparent strategy of a purely PR-based response to the pandemic
so Fox News and OAN will present their perspectives on "experts", the public will absorb and normalize the required viewpoint, and government will then act appropriately to carry out the grifty will of the thoroughly corrupted executive branch.
what could possibly go wrong?
