GOP lawmakers using virus to try to steal power from Democratic governors

By Associated Press -May 11, 2020 9:58 AM

Democratic governors in those states face lawsuits, legislation, and other moves by Republicans trying to seize control of the response to the virus.

Republican-controlled legislatures are increasingly trying to strip Democratic governors of their executive authority to close businesses and schools, a power grab by lawmakers that channels frustration over the economic toll of the coronavirus pandemic but could come with long-term consequences for how their states fight disease.

The efforts to undermine Democratic governors who invoked stay-at-home orders are most pronounced in states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, all three of which have divided government and are key to Donald Trump's path to reelection.

Democratic governors in those states face lawsuits, legislation, and other moves by Republicans trying to seize control of the response to the virus. All three states have also been hotbeds of right-wing protest pushing for a faster reopening.

The GOP lawmakers' strategy echoes earlier attempts in some states to curb the powers of Democratic governors. But this round comes with added health and political risk. By pressing for a faster reopening and seeking to override their governors, Republicans are betting that Americans are ready to restart economic activity — even if that risks steady infection rates and death in the months leading to the November election.

Well, when you see / read. and report that a crimnal enterprise running rough shod over the entire country, and "Dark Money" running governments and a US Supreme Court with there Federalist Society idea that money is free speech BS, and it is a human being just like a corporations are also a human being, because after all they can get a ballot and have a registration number and walk in to vote, this speaks volumes of having how a orange hair fascist traitor got elected and is leading and training little fascist traitors in state governments....................

My family is able to go to stores, drive-thrus, and gas stations. I get my bloodwork at the clinic. We've had 2 of our cars worked on. All of our prescriptions have come on time.

My last haircut was in July. Big deal. It probably won't get caught in my wheelchair, but I'll find a remedy for that if I have to. For about $180, I can legally change my name to Ray Punzel if my hair gets really long.

It beats dying so some nutjob gets another 4 years to f*** things up even more.

Pretty much everything essential is still mostly open. It's mostly just places where there are large and/or close concentrations of people or close contact activities that are still shuttered. It would be insane to try to re-open schools anytime soon (Schools are germ factories even without this virus). I get that people are getting sick of the lockdown but IMHO it's better than getting sick WITH this virus and possibly dying from it (or infecting others).

Allow them.

Activism is critical - Example - Michigan Democrats should be organizing and diving into recall abilities.

Then hit the legislators in the mouth with it.
