My wife tried to break quarantine this weekend

To go visit her family on mother's day.

But every hotel in Mexico is closed due to COVID-19.

Let me repeat, every hotel in Mexico is closed due to COVID-19.

So even though we could have stayed at her mother's, or with one of her sisters, or with her daughter, the mere fact that they're taking COVID-19 so seriously in Mexico was enough to giver her second thoughts and stay in quarantine.

Big cities getting pounded like elsewhere?
I know Mexico City & surrounding towns are quite crowded.

That seems unrealistically low. A fortieth of a percent?
Given the perniciousness of the virus, that's hard to believe.
The OP has family there and their view may be different than the official numbers.

But if the hotels are shut down by federal order, things are bad.

I walked around town yesterday, and there were people out congregating in groups, and filling restaurants (at least the ones that were open), with barely anyone wearing a mask.

I'm in Texas, and we didn't even peak before our idiot governor decided to re-open, making it illegal for local governments to require masks.

She got out of the hospital yesterday, I will not consider dragging any of my germs, possible virus' or bacteria anywhere near her or the other people in her senior building.
