I mean, before and after last week's debacle, he always sounds so breathless and hyperbolic. Very little information, lots of inappropriate emotions. Just in my opinion, YMMV.

(7,627 posts)As an aging Brooklin hipster. He is geekish and awkward beyond belief. For example he is unable to control interviews. If he has a republican on, they run over him every time while he sheepishly try to politely interrupt them...

(102,225 posts)(as last week showed with his unquestioning hit piece on Biden). I think he is bright and hard-working and I am actually NOT among those wanting him removed. I do want him to feel the backlash and learn from it. But, if he can't get behind our eventual nominee and learn to put journalistic integrity to ALL stories, then I'm fine if he is sent packing.

(7,627 posts)he is very sharp and often has insightful analysis. However he is not a good interviewer. He will let right wingers take control of it, too polite to interrupt them.

(47,399 posts)but I didn't watch his show all that much anymore. Ever since Trump got elected, I was on news overload so I had to cut back on my MSNBC viewing and Hayes was not in my top four or five. The way he handled the Tara Reade allegations pushed him lower on my list. I really expected better from him. Major disappointment for me and I probably won't watch him at all now.

(1,086 posts)He is much better at deep dives. The day to day news cycle doesn't really fit him.
But having said that he is in general much better at it then most.

(10,167 posts)given the climate these days and the "me too" movement. It's a necessary and long overdue tightrope to walk in regard to accusations of this sort. I don't see anything dishonest about what he did, he was wrong. That's it.
Truth be told, I shut his show off and I was pissed with him and MSNBC. I thought he was being stupid and taking political correctness too far and that MSNBC was flogging this dumb story way to long. But stupidity and dishonesty are not synonymous. He made a mistake.

(9,951 posts)... he's okay. I've heard he is well-liked by the folks at NBC. That's odd because I do perceive him as a Bernie / AOC etc supporter. It's not "in your face," but I get it...
He also gets an extra re-run on the west coast, which increases his reach. I would expect them to give the extra re-run to Rachel Maddow. I didn't like Chris' Friday night "live" shows. It seemed like he was doing a "stand up" monologue. I guess I'm used to them, now... He "all in" on the Biden story, recently...

(85,986 posts)...but this critique is almost groundless, and ignores the fact that he's one of just a hanhdful of journalists and reporters who reguularly report on issues which concern us, regularly promoting what we usually view as progressive causes around here.
What's the point of trashing him? We desperately need all of the voices that are willing to amplify our message, however theatrically lacking they might be, or whether they measure up to our every aspiration for news reporting and advocacy.
relayerbob
(6,544 posts)tend to cause people to ignore the presenter, and diminishes progressive causes overall. Maybe the choir he preaches to will like it, but others won't even listen.

(37,999 posts)I wasn't paying direct attention to it when it aired so I can't say exactly what was said during that show. Next day he was trending on Twitter with a hashtag to fire him.
I have the accuser's name on my blocked words list here because I don't have the energy to devote to that topic at the moment.

(5,523 posts)He has on an interesting guest. He asks a question which includes all the information the guest would supply in their answer. The guest responds, yes, you're correct Chris. Why have the guest on? Chris continually wants to prove he knows everything the guest knows. Oh, and the breathless delivery.

(3,635 posts)Rachel and Lawrence are good but their shows can be long and boring (their coverage during the pandemic has been great though).
Hayes is well read but also quick witted and moves through his segments at a good pace. He routinely eviscerates Trumpism, 'Trump TV' (as he refers to Fox News), etc.
He's not alt-left/Bernie Bro; he cares about social justice and is not antagonistic towards 'establishment' Dems who he often has on his show (Cuomo was on recently).
I too disliked when he covered the Reade story. But as a journalist he must cover a story that major outlets like the NYT, WaPo, AP etc are covering. I blame them for not doing due diligence and in playing the both-siderism game, where Biden's 'sins' and Trump's are cast as the same.

(25,468 posts)Assume was passive-aggressive insults against Democrats like "elites" "neoliberal" "status quo" and the like. He wrote a whole book about elites ruining America. What was THAT about? Often he's perfectly fine. It's stupid to bash him for having Republicans on his show or bash him for not being perfect in every interview.
The problem is the emotional revolution/anti-establishment/elites thing. He has some sort of problem with people like Obama and Hillary and Biden who believe institutions and government can work if regulated. Maybe he'd be better off in a place where he can really go all-in revolution omg-elites. Then he wouldn't have to try to be objective.
