Man goes to clear out dead mom's home, finds body in freezer

NEW YORK (AP) — A man found a decomposed body in his dead mother's freezer as he was clearing out her Manhattan apartment, police said. He found the body this week in a chest freezer that had been sealed with duct tape, the Daily News reported.

Investigators said the body appeared to have been stored for over 10 years, building superintendent Asmir Basim said Friday. The body was so decayed that authorities couldn't determine its sex, Basim said.

Authorities are investigating, and an autopsy is planned, city officials said in a written statement.

The deceased tenant never gave permission for work to be done in the Hamilton Heights apartment, Basim said,
adding that she “seemed like a lovely lady, always very pleasant.”

I know. Bad joke, but I could not resist. It is how I cope with weird news stories that never seem to come back with a followup later.

These are the types of news stories where we might never find out what happened. It is happening during a news cycle with other stories that will push it off the radar completely. I have seen just enough intriguing stories like this through the years to just joke about it because it seems to happen a lot more than people would think. Usually, there is no followup and you never know what happened or what the story behind it is.

...happened in our small town, around 30 years ago.
Kid was grounded. Wanted to go to HS football game.
Mom says no.
Yelling, yelling.
Kid kills mom, stuffs her in freezer.
Goes to game and about HS life for a couple weeks until cops started getting concerned neighbors that she wasn't seen for a while but the car was always sitting there.
It's not 10 years, but about as creepy!

A mom passed away. The child was cleaning up the house and found a tiny body in the refrigerator freezer. The autopsy determined that the body was really old and related to the child. Last I heard, authorities thought that the mom had a miscarriage many years back and could not let go of the dead child.

From the NY Daily News...

"Cops are trying to learn the name of the deceased, and how the person died. They’re also investigating the possibility the decomposed body is the dead woman’s mother, according to building staff."

If Miss Emily had had electricity, maybe she wouldn't have left the corpse to rot in her bed. Those big freezers sure come in handy.

So I’ve heard, on crime shows.

But in this case, the son would have known if Nana dropped out of sight.
