MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace said Friday that the right is “running a smear campaign” against Joe Biden in how it’s talking about the serious sexual assault allegation against the former vice president from former Senate staffer Tara Reade.

Wallace went further and said there is a “smear campaign” going on against Biden:

“The right isn’t running an intellectually honest operation to get to the bottom of whether Tara Reade was victimized. The right is running a smear campaign against Joe Biden. The right wants to create some sort of equal playing field on which Donald Trump’s nearly two dozen accusers have some company on the other side. The right is not running the same operation that the Democrats are running, which is to try to — as you just articulated, Andrea — to have some consistency around statements that I think just about every elected Democrat has made about women in the context of the #MeToo movement. So as I said with Kayleigh McEnany, everyone should proceed with caution about statements made about this on the right.”

Interesting that it is a former Republican operative who is one of the few people at MSNBC who believes Biden.

candidates, including court cases, the billy bush tape, judgments, etc." The portion of the segment covering Dump would take up the majority of the time and be severe compared to the allegations against Biden. The media needs to keep things in proportion in this matter in order to avoid becoming a conduit for a smear campaign.

Wallace had the job from January 2005 (a couple weeks before GWB's second inauguration) until July 2006, around the time her boss's approval rating sank into the upper 30s. From what I remember of the time, Bush and Republicans were taking the heat due to fatigue over the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the Bush administration's response to Hurricane Katrina. But the Wikipedia entry I linked implies that Wallace left the White House for family reasons, but given the timing I wonder if she was "asked" to resign for performance reasons - obviously, sagging approval ratings meant the communications team was doing a bad job selling the president's message.

We pretty much knew that, but it's good to hear it coming from a former Republican. Her assertion about an "equal playing field" was backed up a bit in today's dog and pony show. Trump chose to more or less back Biden on this matter, rather than seizing upon it to smear him. It was kind of creepy, actually.
