Krebs On Security: Who's Behind the "Reopen" Domain Surge?

Some great analysis by Brian Krebs detailing some of the ownership/control of a large number of new domain registrations made after the dump called on his followers to "Liberate" some of the states.

Whoops: Here's the URL: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2020/04/whos-behind-the-reopen-domain-surge/

The past few weeks have seen a large number of new domain registrations beginning with the word “reopen” and ending with U.S. city or state names. The largest number of them were created just hours after President Trump sent a series of all-caps tweets urging citizens to “liberate” themselves from new gun control measures and state leaders who’ve enacted strict social distancing restrictions in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s a closer look at who and what appear to be behind these domains.

KrebsOnSecurity began this research after reading a fascinating Reddit thread over the weekend on several “reopen” sites that seemed to be engaged in astroturfing, which involves masking the sponsors of a message or organization to make it appear as thought it originates from and is supported by grassroots participants.

The Reddit discussion focused on a handful of new domains — including reopenmn.com, reopenpa.com, and reopenva.com — that appeared to be tied to various gun rights groups in those states. Their registrations have roughly coincided with contemporaneous demonstrations in Minnesota, California and Tennessee where people showed up to protest quarantine restrictions over the past few days.

Same old (r)epuglicon slime working on behalf of Kochs, Putin, etc.

These penis-substitute-carriers are scared to be stuck at home-- or their families are scared of them and keep kicking them out with their guns.

And you know, Trump whistles, and their guns get all erect.

He's been supporting the NRA for years, and we can't forget his gal Maria Butina and her interference with our politics on behalf of Putin's campaign.

They are Libertarians, Teaparty & anarchist fringe groups retooled from the Koch days as John Birchers, and have financed many pacs & organizations (NRA) whose only mission is in the destruction of American Democracy.

They are Anti-Democracy in every breath they utter.
They are smiling & neck deep in the pool of dung dumped on America.

I'm glad there's only one left, but the one that didn't die is the most conservative of the two. I just wonder who will take the reins when Charles Koch croaks.

Going on right wing social media and spreading rumors about the deep state liberals are using mist weapons on them to infect them all with COVID-19 on their protest sites. Even if they are wearing PPE or only in vehicles, this advanced mist keeps circulating around the target area to infect them and settle on their clothing and vehicles to take back to their families. Or embellish and come up with other gimmicks to short circuit their hive.

YES, republicans would immediately use the same tactic against the Democratic Party, but this is how to stop their BS games.

The protesting imbeciles will gobble it all up and run with it. In the end, they will be more unhinged and nuts looking to the American Population or they will cower away from their protesting.

They use the Democratic Party's civility against them, leaving them with the only bullhorn as they sabotage the process to make themselves more popular than they are. They are not, but the Democrats have to punch back hard... Stop getting tied up in the technical argument and simply call them what they are. It is critical that the Democratic Party short circuit their right wing echo chamber by using their own BS against them to make them self destruct.

I have personally wished for a long while that every republican politician and supporter would spontaneously combust in a very very slow burn. I would settle for having the power to snap my fingers and make anyone I wanted (republicans and their underlings) to vanish and simply disappear forever... Preferably adrift in a bubble toward the center of the Solar System.

The reason the Democratic Party keeps losing to republicans is because they give the republicans the benefit of doubt about how dirty and criminal they will really be to get their way. When the Democratic Party knocks them down, do not let them shake it off and get back up. Jump on them and pummel the hell out of them... Republicans would do the same to the Democrats. Either the Democratic Party can fight fair expecting rules to be honored or they can fight to win like republicans do. How many times do republicans have to prove that they will ignore the Constitution and endanger the country to get their way, before the Democratic Party throws down and puts an end to it forever?

That's why I was worried about Biden getting the nomination, because he is one of those very soft democrats. Now that he is our candidate, I'll support him 100%. But he REALLY needs a no-bullshit, hard-hitting VP candidate to call the republicans on their shit.

The states being targeted just happen to have Democratic governors, and all these "spontaneous" demonstrations just happen to use the same slogans and verbiage on their signs. I saw one knucklehead being interviewed who waved away all this fancy medical stuff and said that it was his deep, personal feeling that all this lockdown talk was just a smoke screen for something nefarious. It was a cogent bit of nonsense, solemnly recorded and played for the viewing audience without a trace of criticism, just one perfectly legitimate opinion in the arena of ideas.

Even supposedly middle-ground such as MSNBC or CNN promoting the hatred as a way to get adverts? Not sure about this "adverts" thing, tho. Money is being pumped into the networks, cable especially to influence/nudge opinions.
