Why does Dr. Deborah Birx wear scarves?

I don't think it is a mere fashion statement. Notice how no one up there wears a mask. Maybe, as soon as she leaves the area, she makes the scarf into a mask and leaves through a side door.

No doubt it's true that we just aren't supposed to age because objects don't age.

And/or maybe she likes pieces of gorgeous fabric like silk? As a fashion accessory? Why is this so weird all of a sudden?

I see the references to her scarves all over the place. It doesn't seem to matter if she's having a good day or a bad day in her messenging, if she's seen as friend of Dr. Fauci or an enabler of DT. It so often comes down to the scarves.

This goes into my tiny mental time capsule of COVID-19 details.

like just a personal preference to me. Why does Al Roker wear those gaudy colored frames for his glasses? Just because he wants to, and that's OK with me.

...when Dr. Birx was a young professional woman, and she apparently has stuck with the fashion. She dresses very nicely.

OTOH, at least one journalist has wondered why she doesn't throttle the Liar in Chief with her scarf of the day.

It’s a comment on someone’s style. We notice people in public life and what they wear. For many it is a statement of how they wish to be perceived. Clothes are what we see. If we were naked perhaps belly buttons would be of interest. We talk about tRump’s ties, we talk about Joe Biden’s sunglasses and bomber jacket, we talked about Hill’s pantsuits. Let it go. Mentioning how someone dresses is not sexist.

I am glad I have scarves right now, because I do not have a mask. I cover my face with a scarf when I have to go out.

If you can't see that this was a joke, just go away.

She looks best in a lose fitting colorful scarf

It's an instant accessory. You can also do "wardrobe changes" by changing out a scarf. She's on air alot, so if she wears the blue paisley scarf at noon, then a red vibrant scarf later, maybe people won't notice she's wearing the same outfit.

Looks like she wore tired pearls a few years back, but it hard a tired look.

With a nice skirt and blouse or dress. Looks great on her.

We love traveling to France and she picked the look up there. Along with most of the scarves she wears.

I’m no fan of the Doctor. But have seen several post on DU about her scarves. Funny, not seen one post about what the men wear. Things that make me go hummm.

His ties are commented on quite often. People comment on his frumpy appearance. It is not very Presidential, especially after Obama. We comment on Melania, too. There were many comments about her fake looking appearance when she was pretending to garden. We still comment about the jacket that said she really did not care. That was most inappropriate.
