We're fighting the last economic war, not this one

The stimulus mostly helps big corporations, airlines, etc. But there are maybe 45 million small businesses getting crushed. Luckily my small business is immune, but restaurants, landlords, lawyers, hair salons, strip clubs, small stores, handy men, child care providers, lawn and pool maintenance businesses, home cleaners, movie theatres, bars, dance clubs, yoga studios, are getting crushed with little help. I read that there are 45 million small businesses like this. We will need a new massive stimulus bill to keep them alive. A common criticism is that countries prepare for the last war but end up unprepared for the new one. I am really worried that we aren’t addressing this new economic war.

I retired last year and have a pretty cheap lifestyle. Unless SS were to crash I should be ok for the foreseeable future. My last job was essentially an office job. It could be done from home as my ex coworkers are doing. And that could go onto some time. There are many people who are working from home now that won’t be able to maintain that very long. And there are a great many jobs that can’t be done from home. Some home jobs can only continue while a regular work force is out there and a great many jobs that are lost if people can’t come there. Maybe those jobs will rebound if and when the pandemic dies down but many won’t. It’s really hard to say where it all will go but it’s pretty obvious things won’t go back to the way they were.

I just hope there is a massive blue wave next election and the government will start supporting average citizens rather than the 1%. Govt should be for the citizens not the corporations.

The stock market tripled under Clinton, it tripled under Obama. Profits come from people with money. Making sure people have money is great for businesses.
