Depend on it, sir, when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind.

It’s crazy but I have had 3 republican coworkers tell me unsolicited that they think trump is nuts and they will vote for Biden. These are not my direct reports because I do not talk politics at work and shut down my employees if I hear they are doing so. It wrecks morale.

2 of these are peers and one is my boss. To his credit he did not vote for trump but left the presidential choice blank. I think he assumed we would not elect trump and wants to be able to claim he did not vote for Hillary.

And things are not even bad yet in Florida compared to what they will be in 2 weeks.

None of these are religious nuts, who will never abandon trump. But run of the mill small government republicans.

I’m thinking the polls are lagging.

I live in a rural Midwest area, very red, and I hear the same old blame the Democrats, lock her up, fake news, Deep State bullshit they have been throwing around forever.

But Florida is not a primarily rural state. Anyone who wins all the major cities and their suburbs wins the state.

You can be a bigot and work for all of the major employers here. If you keep your mouth shut. But bigots can’t keep their mouths shut. I can’t think of a single large employer that would allow homophobic, racist, misogynistic or xenophobic language to go unpunished. Any of my guys who did so would be out the door.

I grew up in Louisiana and Arkansas. My wife is from the rura Midwest. Many of those states will go Republican no matter what. President Obama won here both times. Joe Biden will as well.

They believed him. They spent weeks clucking at their liberal coworkers and friends about it.

Now their friends are dying. Their parents are dying. Their hospitals are overrun.

Sure, Trump gets a meager rally-round-the-flag bump. But these people are confused, and they're getting angry. And it's not going to get better. As Rick Wilson says, you can't gaslight a virus.
