Feb 2020 Pompeo announced US sent PPE supplies to China (and then didn't restock!)

[link:https://www.state.gov/the-united-states-announces-assistance-to-combat-the-novel-coronavirus/

On State Dept letterhead:

The United States Announces Assistance To Combat the Novel Coronavirus

Press Statement

Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State

February 7, 2020

This week the State Department has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to the Chinese people, including masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials. These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people.

Today, the United States government is announcing it is prepared to spend up to $100 million in existing funds to assist China and other impacted countries, both directly and through multilateral organizations, to contain and combat the novel coronavirus. This commitment – along with the hundreds of millions generously donated by the American private sector – demonstrates strong U.S. leadership in response to the outbreak.

Could you tell me, specifically, what was supposed to be “restocked” and by whom?

Where did the equipment come from?

You are baldly mischaracterizing the press release

It says the State Department “facilitated the transportation” of privately donated supplies.

It was very generous of them. I question the threat assessment the state dept related to them at the time. Instead of official US government aid, companies provided supplies, and the state dept facilitated the transfer.

Aid was the right thing to do to try to contain the situation, but it’s hard to read, now. tRump and gang didn’t plan ahead for the needs of their own country a month later.

If he had not been actively denying the coming storm, perhaps he would not have had his state department facilitate this depletion of US stocks (whether or not they were privately held or funded).

The threat assessment in China as related to the U.S. was likely what it was to NOLA before Mardi Gras.

HE WAS CALLING IT A HOAX.
