US President Donald Trump has said he is considering imposing a quarantine on New York in a bid to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
"We'd like to see [it] quarantined because it's a hotspot," he told reporters. "I'm thinking about that."
He spoke as confirmed cases in the state increased to more than 52,000, with at least 728 deaths.
But the state's governor, Andrew Cuomo, said he had not discussed such measures with the president.
"I didn't speak to him about any quarantine," he told reporters shortly after he had spoken with Mr Trump by phone.
"I haven't had those conversations," he added. "I don't even know what that means."

He pulled this shit out of his ass. Neither Cuomo or Murphy know anything about it. Enforce it how? Good way to incite (more) panic buying 😡

"About five million residents left Wuhan, before the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus epidemic and the Spring Festival holiday, mayor Zhou Xianwang revealed on January 26 at a press conference.
"Wuhan and several cities in Hubei Province shut down all inbound and outbound transportation on January 23 hoping to stop the new virus from spreading to other parts of the country. However, many had already left the city for the holiday, while others rushed out after the lockdown was announced on Wednesday night."

(12,712 posts)A dictator has to dictate. His whole modus operandi is total control in the end. El Presidente is not just about his properties or much of the facade he creates to deceive people so well.
If you spent your entire life as a confidence man, cheating and stiffing people, stepping on and crushing heads and, never having been made accountable for anything, (even now) or paid a real price, or even "worked" in the traditional sense, you would be jaded too.
What's left? Well, a decent mark is a country. How amazing. He has his fist up the butt of America and he is only looking to tear out our guts, just to prove a point and just to get the thrill of any sense of expanded power he can grasp. If you put yourself there, then there is nothing left but to seize the opportunity to be a full-blown, tin pot dictator.
He is getting closer to that and we should see more strong-arm and vindictive tactics. This is an opportunistic deal for authoritarians. That's all that motivates him, in my mind. He wants the rush and probably lives for the day.
