Senator says White House turned down emergency coronavirus funding in early February

WASHINGTON — Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, says that Trump administration officials declined an offer of early congressional funding assistance that he and other senators made on Feb. 5 during a meeting to discuss the coronavirus.

The officials, including Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, said they “didn’t need emergency funding, that they would be able to handle it within existing appropriations,” Murphy recalled in an interview with Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast.

“What an awful, horrible catastrophic mistake that was,” Murphy said.

On Feb. 5, Murphy tweeted: “Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough. Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.”

One time he was at the local grocery store, obviously trying to be incognito with a Red Sox hat pulled down hiding his face. He was a congressman at the time, even congressmen get sent out to the store to get things i guess.

did not screw up. Total incompetence. And the Senate repugs? Sitting there high and mighty, above the fray, and relying on their gold plated health insurance to save their a&&es.

... toward actually succeeding at anything*, preferring instead to focus on the appearance of success. His business track record shows this. It's why many people have said "everything Trump touches, dies." And now his hands are all over America, and, no surprise, this country is being very, very badly damaged.

* Unless, of course, the "thing" he was trying to succeed at was making people believe he was rich and successful.

He followed Fauci’s advise to block anyone from China or anyone who travelled through China from entering the US earlier than most nations. Fauci said that was the only thing that helped us to buy some time. Not that trump used any of the time he got wisely.

having a staff still in China (and even if they did, would trump had actually listened? I suspect not). And of course like you say, none of the time we gained didn't do any good anyway, since idiot screwed around playing cowboy politics, instead of doing his job. What a joke. A massive joke, but Americans aren't laughing.
