(10,303 posts)One health system in central NC has designated one of its hospitals the Covid-19 hospital to where all patients in the area are initially transferred. Once that hospital is full, a former maternity hospital will be re-opened (the maternity hospital just closed recently when the main hospital expanded with a new maternity wing) - after that who knows where patients will go.
Strangely some ER departments are quieter than normal in rural areas, as my wife has been saying that the Emergency Department at her small hospital is less busy. And yes, supplies are being rationed.

(23,656 posts)fail to realize these are deaths above and beyond the number of deaths that occur every day from heart disease, diabetes, accidents, murders, suicides etc and yes the flu. There were approx 34,000 deaths in the 2018-2019 flu season.

(10,303 posts)I'm hoping the virus isn't mutating and causing these more serious outcomes. Yet another good reason to be a good neighbor and "stay over there". (Sorry I have the grumpy cat meme stuck in my head right now).
