Not a lot of discussion of that yet. Smoking rates in Milan had been extremely high until fairly recently.

1 Andorra 6398.3
2 Luxembourg 6330.9

That's like 18 cigarettes per day

55. It's got to be way more than that 18 cigarettes isn't even

a full pack, unless the cigarettes over there are different than ours. John Wayne and Judy Garland each smoked 4 packs a day at different points in their life. Although I have never known anyone that smoked that much.

Got to love American's complete trust in what is being reported. I've noticed that nobody is reporting on the 18 out of 25 new cases in Florida that are under the age of sixty. It seems to me that it is statistically significant...

It's just kind of generalized white resentment from the left and right all rolled into a convenient vest. They have done some marches with both far-left and far-right parties but it never really came to anything because it's just a bunch of people who are very angry but can't really say why.

41. It's supposed to be a socioeconomic movement, but they have large alt-right faction

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_vests_movement#Concerns_about_extremist_elements_in_the_movement

Concerns about extremist elements in the movement
Concerns that the yellow vests movement were providing a new forum for extremist views were more frequently reported in the media after Alain Finkielkraut was insulted in week XIV. Vincent Duclert [fr], an expert on anti-Semitism, said that while "the gilets jaunes are not an anti-Semitic movement, each Saturday there are anti-Semitic expressions by groups of the extreme right or extreme left." Jean-Yves Camus, an expert on French political extremism, identified an "inherent weakness of a movement that lets the people speak" as being that anyone (whether far left, far right, radical Islamist or anti-Zionist) can say whatever they want in the street with little concern for propriety or legality.

Finkielkraut, interviewed by BFM-TV, was especially concerned with the viral nature of what he called a new type of "anti-racist" anti-Semitism. He named Dieudonné and Alain Soral as those responsible for propagating this new form of anti-Semitism.

According to a study conducted in February 2019, half of all yellow vest protesters (50%) said they believed in a "global Zionist conspiracy".

44. Ugh not now

“We had to come and mark the day to tell Macron that we’re still here and that we won’t accept his pension reform,” said one pensioner.

The yellow vests, named after the high-visibility jackets they wear, were holding a 70th consecutive Saturday of action. The movement emerged late in 2018, triggered by fuel tax rises, and swelled into a revolt against Macron’s government.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner on Friday said all gatherings with more than 100 people had been banned. Paris police had already turned down requests for protesters to demonstrate at sensitive sites this Saturday, including the Champs Elysees where violent clashes broke out between security forces and protesters almost a year ago to the day.

Have some insight into what gathering this time will do over your long ongoing protest concerns

Probably because of the misleading wording - 50% of all ICU patients, vs. 50% of all COVID ICU patients. So the smoking patterns are probably playing a role, but we'll have to get clearer data.
