Probably started with bats, went to pigs or some other compatible animal and then infected patient #1.
Since we are now a global community, it just takes a certain bit of time until it spreads around the world.
Actually surprised, considering how communicable this is, that it has taken so long. Must be related to the Chinese really trying to contain the epidemic.

is that it's just the ordinary flu, it was around the US in November & December - and we exported it to China where it took off because of poor health care and crowded conditions.

I've seen this in FB threads from numerous RW FB friends of mine.

for it to be created in a top secret lab, then released on the world. Of course, the meme doesn't explain WHAT reason Bill Gates would have for doing something like that.

As others have said, research is showing that China is particularly vulnerable to being the focal point of diseases because of their unregulated animal markets.

They have huge markets where wild animals are caught and sold as food. There have been a few articles on the situation. There is some belief that the wild animals are fresher than farmed animals. When you interact with wild animals you expose yourself to greater possibility for novel infections.

Corona viruses are a family of viruses that are pretty robust and which adapt and mutate quickly. The common cold is typically a rhinovirus or a coronavirus. SARS and MERS are also coronaviruses. With all of the trade that happens with China, anything that forms there and is even moderately contagious is going to spread based solely on the volume of contact. With COVID-19's ability to remain active on surfaces for up to 3 days, it makes it all the worse.

I think that is the most succinct yet in depth explanation of just how and why the wet markets came to be as well as how and why they are involved in the coronavirus outbreak. Most interesting (and ultimately unsurprising) was finding out which part of the Chinese population is responsible for keeping them going.
