Excellent and heartbreaking article in The Atlantic that, unfortunately, spells out exactly where America stands with regard to accomplished and capable women. We have very far to go.

(1,165 posts)I'm so disappointed to be looking at a field of old white men and knowing Trump will be the youngster in the race. It is sad.
We need fair representation. Shes amazing, what a loss.

(9,263 posts)I championing that people decide and when decisions don;t turn out for who support, claiming sexism and playing the victim card creates more harm for women in the future.

Summary: women are not interchangeable
-the other woman might not be a feminist
-the other woman might be sexist, or benefit from patriarchal bargaining
-the other woman might not feel empowered to tell what she really thinks
-making this argument employs the male privilege to choose which woman's opinion is more convenient
- making this argument reveals an attitude that one will choose the most convenient woman to represent the whole of women
- making this argument represents an implied challenge: "[the woman I approve of] has no trouble with $PHENOMENON -- are you [not worthy of my approval]?"
-dismissing any person's opinion by simple contradiction is disrespectful.

(1,165 posts)"Almost 90% of people are biased against women, according to a new index that highlights the shocking extent of the global backlash towards gender equality.
Despite progress in closing the equality gap, 91% of men and 86% of women hold at least one bias against women in relation to politics, economics, education, violence or reproductive rights."

(2,146 posts)My choice was Amy....but I'm in NY so I never got to vote for her before she suspended before NY votes.
All the women(viable) were eliminated by Us...Harris, Klobachar, Warren.....we did that...Not "America" because we are months away from November...where "America" would have a say.
3 highly qualified & capable women were sent packing by Us...and after 2016..I don't get that.
Noooo.... let's do a couple of previous runners(that lost)....maybe they will pick one of the women as a step up....to garner votes.
