Azar refuses to promise a coronavirus vaccine will be affordable for anyone

Azar refuses to promise a coronavirus vaccine will be affordable for anyone:

"We would want to ensure that we work to make it affordable, but we can't control that price, because we need the private sector to invest.. Price controls won't get us there."

Here's the clip of Azar not assuring Rep. Schakowsky a covid-19 vaccine will be affordable to all.

Biotech company Moderna says its coronavirus vaccine is ready for first tests

London (CNN Business)US biotech firm Moderna has shipped an experimental coronavirus vaccine to US government researchers just six weeks after it started working on the immunization.

Initial trials of the potential vaccine could begin in April, but the process of testing and approvals would last at least a year.

Moderna (MRNA) said in a statement Monday that the first batch of its novel coronavirus vaccine, called mRNA-1273, has been sent to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

A potential vaccine isn't a vaccine until it's been proven to work. Medications and vaccines routinely fail in testing, so claiming there's already a vaccine when tests haven't even begun yet is intentionally misleading.

The OP's title is false. The context is that the rep was saying when one is developed, they would want to try to make it affordable.

Flu meds and HIV (this was a few weeks ago) appear to have some effect. Just saying.

That is, if you want to preserve commerce and everything that goes with it. It is counterproductive to capitalism and investment, across the board and should be a priority out of self-interest. It is economically sensible considering the ramifications of the impact of a massive pandemic.

This also feeds the conspiracy theories that "they" want to wipe out a large segment of the global population and the virus is engineered to do that.

What is going on here? This is a travesty and something is wrong if we are going to privatization of world health.

be guaranteed a Coronavirus vaccine (once one is created) would be the millionaires and billionaires that benefitted from the massive tax cuts pushed by the President and Republicans. The remaining population may end up being left at riask? That is essentially what you are say isn’ it.

Secretary Azar, explain to the American people why, in 2018, the President fired the chain of command of the agency responsible for pandemic rapid response and then failed to fill the jobs? Exactly who is handling pandemic rapid response.

Secretary Azar, explain to the American people the Presidents desire to cut funding for the CDC and the actual reduction of funding to the World Health Organization.

Secretary Azar, why on earth should the American people have any faith whatsoever that Trump has any capability to handle this crisis given his efforts to undercut the very institutions necessary to deal with this crisis?

That is what I would have like Azar to be asked in committee and under oath on tv.

Second, start a course of HIV medication. I've yet to do that but anybody's doctor should be able to help.

Third, follow the directions found here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213018819

This is survivable. We can survive if we have the will... People busy arguing about this aren't likely to

And it is pretty fucking stupid anyway. Vaccinating most people (say 80-90%) would halt the spread of any disease. THAT SAVES MONEY. People don’t get sick, they don’t die, they keep going to work, they keep spending money. How monstrous do you have to be to say this, even before there is a vaccine? Profits over people. It is in the best interests of this country and humanity in general to develop this. It is the patriotic fucking DUTY of these companies and our government to do this. How did we even manage to win WWII? We wouldn’t if it happened now I guess.
