From the moment he refused to show his tax returns, he has been pulling a "hoax" on the American people.
He was going to build a wall and the Mexicans were going to pay for it. It was a "hoax".
He was going to be the most transparent president ever. As of today, it is documented that he has told over 16,000 falsehoods or outright lies. It was a "hoax".
He fell in love with Kim Jung Un and was going to negotiate to remove the threat of nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula. It was all bullshit.
He was going to create the strongest economy in the world, with 6% growth. He was going to save the coal industry.
Even though he was left with a stable and growing economy, he shot it up with $2 trillion dollars in taxcuts. Most went to the corporations and the very wealthy. Many bought back their own stock and sent the stock market zooming. But there was a price to pay.
The deficits and spending were too much for our economy to handle. So there are going to be massive cuts in Medicaid and other programs for people. The poor will suffer the greatest. There is no free lunch. We will find that it was a "hoax".
Now, the Republicans have sold our country and our democracy down the river for a two-bit dictator wannabe. Character doesn't matter. The truth doesn't matter. The Constitution doesn't matter.
We are witnessing the biggest "hoax" in American history.

(23,065 posts)drumpf is part of this organization by virtue of being Vlad's pet ugly chihuahua, his only value is that he has guaranteed them re-election because Russia has agreed to do whatever it takes as long as he works on getting rid of sanctions on them. That is his and Barr's biggest priority because they know PUtin will take them out if they don't deliver - he has the goods on both of them and lots and lots of Russian Repug traitors currently in office.

(21,264 posts)I know that Hedges is to the left of Bernie Sanders, I think he endorsed Jill Stein, so his column should be taken with a grain of salt.
I hesitate to talk about it here because it will cause hard feelings. Hedges stated that the forces that made Trumpism possible will remain largely undisturbed if Trump loses the election. I think that Hedges is talking about centrist Democrats when he says that "people" keep believing that America's problems are temporary, and in the end no deep institutional changes are needed. He states that good people who think that way are also enabling Trumpism to flourish.

(7,888 posts)How about dwelling in the present? Forgive me for being blunt. What is ever accomplished without the courage to act?
The world of John Lennon's "Imagine" requires more than good intentions. I'm an old fossil, should we just play the sad song of "these were the days my friend, I thought they would never end"?

(23,065 posts)This is not a hoax, it is a planned destruction of our constitution and way of life, it is an installment of a dictatorship of the right (fascism) that they have been pushing since the 1920's and nothing has changed except the rich got more power and money and stole it all from us. They have long thought that only a fascist dictator would serve their needs and have worked long and hard to destroy us and implement this. They are total traitors and I despise every single one of the right wing asses.

(63,801 posts)to steal our ideals away from us, but this should anger all of us, to get out and Vote, or are we going to give away our country to them.
If they keep on taking from us, that is when we will fight back when you having nothing you have nothing to lose. Just my opinion.

(72 posts).......perhaps I'm wrong, but I honestly don't believe that drumpf is intelligent enough to grasp any kind of an understanding as to how he's failing "our constitution and way of life." Putin? Absolutely! drumpf? Not a clue! He's totally in it for the the power fix it provides for him.

(23,065 posts)I think at least at one time he could understand it, not sure about now, but I do know he doesn't give a fig. PUtin had told him he's got his back and will steal the election for him if he continues to do everything he's told to do. That is all he cares about, helping himself and the guy who had the keys to the promised kingdom as well as the jail because he would put drumpfs cushy life in danger. PUtin also wants it at least somewhat obvious that his tool is doing his bidding not what is in America's best interest but what is in Russia/PUtin's interest, but it won't get worse than the few hints of glee he lets slip now until he's gotten the sanctions removed and drumpf re-elected.

I doubt they'll awaken until their paycheck is $75 a week and hamburgers are $12.95.

(2,590 posts)And people will walk by his tomb, mausoleum, crypt, Jabba the Hut Ozymandias-like self-monument, now all but an ancient pile of desert sand, and they will, to a person, spit on it. Or piss on it. Or obscenely shit on it. He will one day be as reviled and defiled as any so-called monument memorial to the likes of Hitler, Mussolini, etc. (Oh wait, they don't have one!). And, perhaps, he won't have one either, except some marked cobblestones where the crowds profanely dragged his lifeless corpse through the streets in exaltation at his demise.

Sadly too many Americans were fooled by his act. And here we are.

(11,885 posts)Knowing it was all lies , and he'd use his position for profits by selling out anything he could to line his pockets, and now he has corrupted many republicans to support that in order for them to win, by rigging the election for them. Wonder how much putin has given him, and Moscow Mitch bribing them on this trial in exchange for re-election help?
