Has John Bolton's book been banned? Or is it in the process of being banned? Will the White House be successful in getting a court order to keep it from being published on March 17th?
What is it in the book that is so threatening to this White House? Are there people in the NSC that believe Donald Trump is a threat to our national security? Do they believe him to be a Russian agent? What information are they keeping from the American people?
When our country begins to ban books, we are in some very dire straits.

(6,831 posts)Books can be and are printed months in advance and embargoed until the agreed upon date for release, especially if they think the first run will sell out fast.
John Bolton still has first amendment rights. And his book was thoroughly vetted by government security. If there had been ANYTHING in there that would have compromised national security, it would have been yanked in a New York minute. That nothing has been removed tells you that the book passed the national security clearances it needed to.
Publishers have a long history of fighting for the right to a free and unrestrained press. Court battles are nothing new, as many powerful people have tried and failed in the past to stop publication of books they didn't want to see the light of day.

(9,426 posts)Who among them would be capable of actually READING Bolton's book? They are all too busy lining their pockets to do their real jobs. Pompeo had to have a reporter point out to him just where foreign countries ARE!! There should have been TWO blank maps, then ask the reporter to point out countries while Pompeo was doing likewise. My money would be on the reporter.

(111,110 posts)He's written several books. He knows what is classified and what is not. The White House is attempting to ban it.
It is odd that the very people who worked for him at the White House then, now telling him that they know more about classification than him. While I do not like Mr. Bolton, the guy is intelligent. In fact, he is more intelligent than any person on his defense team in Senate trial now. He is also self-righteous, obnoxiously aggressive, and will have the final word. The only question is when.

(86,803 posts)The book is being held by -45 for alleged classified info, however, the letter accompanying the draft for review states that they took great pains to avoid including classified info which is cover for Bolton if they end up leaking the book.

(4,996 posts)The Court has set and reaffirmed significant barriers to the government exercising prior restraint.
The (Supreme) Court has held that in order to support an issuance of prior restraint, the government needs to prove that publication would cause inevitable, direct, and immediate danger to the United States.
That my friends is an incredibly high bar that the government needs to overcome.
I don't see that Bolton's book would come even close to that test so if the Trump administration tried to ban Bolton's book, the inevitable lawsuit (and the volumes upon volumes upon volumes of amicus curiae briefs filed by just about every friend of the 1st Amendment) will prevail.

(21,408 posts)he is forbidding Bolton from talking about it, that way should a miracle occur and he be called as a witness, he wouldn't be allowed to talk about Ukraine.
Trump has not banned the book, and from whom did you hear that he is forbidding Bolton to talk about it?

(2,599 posts)As far as I know, he can't bar Bolton from testifying, as Bolton is no longer working within the administration.

(21,408 posts)is taking so long to approve the book? Wonder who is telling the NSA to sit on the book. C'mon man.
If Bolton's book isn't cleared how will he be able to talk about it?

Bolton is not stupid. Neither is Simon and Schuster. This is not anybody's first rodeo. Anything in that book that compromised national security would have been pulled immediately.
I don't know WHO is pushing this "banned" nonsense. There is NO BAN on this book. trumpie can rant and rave until his orange face turns blue. He cannot stop publication of this book. John Bolton has first amendment rights.
And it has already been printed up and is embargoed until 3/17, the agreed upon date for release.
And anybody who thinks the NSA is interested in stopping THIS book obviously doesn't know that Edward Snowden had NO PROBLEM getting HIS book published !
