(130,159 posts)you see the RW keep pushing the boundaries and then pointing to stuff like that.
Like the "holy books" of many religions, the Constitution has a whole pile of inconsistencies too. Many of us said the same "so much for 'all (men) are created equal'" (when men of color weren't included, let alone were women even considered).

Rep. Schiff opens with a joke about how Chief Justice Roberts might not appreciate how rare it is for Congress members to pay attention and sit silently.
Then he notes that each day begins with the Sergeant at Arms announcing they must do so on pain of imprisonment.

(4,986 posts)When a man unprincipled in private life[,] desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper . . . despotic in his ordinary demeanour known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity to join in the cry of danger to liberty to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.

Pulled the language from a WaPo piece written by Ron Chernow - the historian who spoke at the WH correspondents dinner last year. And, who consulted on the production of the Hamilton musical.

(130,159 posts)ALTHOUGH with anything that is presented "for the record" in any of these chambers, they usually include a provision to allow members to "revise and extend their remarks" up to some "x" number of days after the session has concluded. So I would expect that will happen here.

(130,159 posts)If anything, i consider all of this for the historical record. Because of the circumstances that they had to work with, they had to find a way to create their own precedent for presenting a case for impeachment, that would utilize the format of previous precedent, but that was adapted to the fact that there was no grand jury available to help with supplemental evidence in the face of the defending President's refusal to provide anything. Plus nowadays, you have all of these "new media", with video and audio clips, as well as texts and emails, that will somehow be transcribed, and included in the record.

Rep. Garcia is doing important ground work on Biden here. The foundation of the President's defense is he was doing his job and investigating corruption was an important part of it. She is destroying this defense here. Time well spent
