It was in the mid-60s and my friend and I went to a James Brown concert at the Lansing Civic Center. I can't remember any other White folks at that concert. When James sang that song, we jumped up and sang along with everyone else. It seemed normal to us being 15 or 16 years old and everyone acted like it was a normal thing. We had a great time.
