Democrats know they don't have the votes to convict.

They have never believed that they had the votes.

But, they want there to be political consequences for the Repubs that defend the illegal and unconstitutional actions of Donald Trump.

They want to be on the side of public opinion. At present, about 70% say there needs to be documents and witnesses to have a fair trial.

Democrats want to win the public debate, realizing there is little chance of convicting Donald Trump.

Repubs will claim victory but will it be a pyrrhic victory?

Problem for them is, our base is bigger. And our Dem leadership knows this.

All the world's big TV stations that I've seen are covering it day by day. Some are having discussion panels about it and most seem to know the basic facts. Very few are Trump cultists and are thus looking at it more or less objectively. They are likely to see who Republicans really are and what kind of undemocratic skulduggery they are capable of. No doubt many are frightened that self-serving assholes like this are controlling the levers of so much power. America was supposed to be better than this; future trust is questionable.

6. They ignore the truth at their own electoral peril.

Democracy’s problem comes with reliance on a fair election. Thanks to Putin, Trump May be able to tamper and whatever else he needs to “win.”

So we need to do all we can to make the truth — Trump’s treason — stands so plain, the GOP Senators must vote to convict. We might not get a chance to set things straight in November.
