Mitch McConnell has already said he is ready to work hand in glove with the White House Counsel.
"If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit".
Just like with OJ, they look to confirm their pre-conceived notions.
All the evidence said OJ killed those people. It wasn't just the glove. It was the blood on OJ. On his clothes. In his vehicle. His confession as he sought to escape on the Expressway. There was mountains of evidence. Yet, the jury acquitted him.
With Trump, there is also mountains of evidence. It is everywhere. Even in places he keeps secret.
But, in the end, OJ walked.
At least, for a while.

(29,322 posts)Especially since his post trial behavior probably means he is guilty but there were problems with chain of custody & other problems that they reformed to avoid in the future. Plus OJ wasn't the only controversial verdict from LA at the time. A couple years earlier there was the officers acquitted for the Rodney King beating & a store clerk only received probation from killing a teenager.

(7,715 posts)I am sure that Schiff, Nadler, Val Demings etc will be FAR better than Marcia Clark and Chris Darden were with Simpson.
Remember that Dershowitz was principally in the Simpson criminal case if a guilty verdict had to be appealed. My understanding was that he didn't attend the criminal trial much, if at all. He watched it on TV from his office at Harvard Law School and participated in the defense via telephone calls. Dershowitz is more of an appellate lawyer than a trial lawyer.
It remains to be seen what kind of "trial" our esteemed Senators will allow for Dear Leader...
One other aside: I just noticed that Dershowitz's Wikipedia page says he has represented Julian Assange. Interesting!

(18,486 posts)They got caught up in the hype and also allowed the defense to bait them into running down rabbit holes they dug, keeping them constantly off-focus and in reaction mode when they should have kept the jury's attention on the basic, unassailable facts and narrative.
I don't think the Democrats are going to do that.

(11,885 posts)Have been bribed , by putin and trump with laundered money to fund their re-election , and to help hack or pay others elsewhere to hack our next election to help them win, and in exchange pay them and trump off , but to eventually lift sanctions for putin, and destroy our Democracy and cause economic troubles for us for his revenge. Is that behind there upcoming votes very soon? It's going to all be exposed, and if they are conspiring to do this that's even more legal troubles they will face after getting exposed, which they will be. trump's criminal activities are going to haunt him and republicans who are involved with him.

The weekends at Camp David
And what about tRumps "press conferences" where he took the time to call out by name EVERY REPUBLICAN SENATOR in glowing, fawning terms?
It's all bribery...pure and simple and we need to make it front page news.

(36,291 posts)My life isn't going to change regardless of the outcome of the Senate trial. And I don't think it's going to have a noticeable impact on other member's lives either.
So I'm not sure how one is supposed to prepare.

(15,536 posts)How do you know that? I say that not to antagonize you, but because that's the attitude I've taken most of my life - "my life won't change much since I'm just a lowly individual". However, this time I'm not so sure if that's true. How emboldened do you think his supporters will be if he's reelected? Think of what's going on today in Virginia. Why do you think the so-called gun rights advocates chose this day to hold their rally? These people are itching for a new civil war.
I guess Democrats as a whole are the sort of people who actually care about others, and I'm one of those. Maybe it won't affect me on a very personal basis. After all, I'm of the privileged white race and am fairly financially comfortable and retired. I just cannot say "it won't affect me personally" and live with myself.

(12,517 posts)The day after the election i woke up & said " Oh well, thats that. Off to work I go".
Doesnt mean i'm fine with trump, i'm not. I wont vote for him & will support whoever it is that is the other choice. Get RID of him. And thats it. I'm not withdrawing from the world or my friends or family. Did everyone here take their money out of the stock market because trump is president? Because if so, thats just stupid. And sad.
