Trump Justice Department sues to seize private property for border-wall constructionHOUSTON (AP) Three years into Donald Trumps presidency, the U.S. government is ramping up its efforts to seize private land in Texas to build a border wall.
Trumps signature campaign promise has consistently faced political, legal, and environmental obstacles in Texas, which has the largest section of the U.S.-Mexico border, most of it without fencing. And much of the land along the Rio Grande, the river that forms the border in Texas, is privately held and environmentally sensitive.
Almost no land has been taken so far. But Department of Justice lawyers have filed three lawsuits this month seeking to take property from landowners. On Tuesday, lawyers moved to seize land in one case immediately before a scheduled court hearing in February.
The agency says its ready to file many more petitions to take private land in the coming weeks. While progress has lagged, the process of taking land under eminent domain is weighted heavily in the governments favor.

(4,490 posts)The Trump voters who will be mad are just a very small number of Trump voting property owners that live right on the border. They aren't flipping anything.

North Carolina has a Democratic governor right now because of voter turnout in traditional Democratic strongholds.

(12,712 posts)I imagine that the base voters there will be more than happy to give up some land for the cause.
Should I hold my breath waiting for the Land for Trump rally cry and cheers of support from them? Let's see, don't take my guns or my religion, but go ahead and take my land because, well, ah, the leader wants it for the Great Wall of Ignorance.
Loyalists must and should make any sacrifices for their leader. The leader is what is most important here, not what you sacrifice or what you don't get.
Well then, loyal supporters, on your knees! Give tithes of land to the Throne of Bogus. He has, (or will have) your back.

Another man said, None of us at our age need the additional stress, but that doesnt mean he wont vote for Trump again in 2020.
Yes, by all means vote for him again. Voting against your best interests is just another form of self-destruction and one wonders if the self-hatred is that difficult to keep in check. It is too bad we have to all share that expression of Thantos. Taking us all down with you is the real problem here.
It's just the beginning of what needs to be given up. Blood is often required further on. Ask not, what your Trump can do for you, but what you can do for your Trump. Authoritarians give you such a sense of false security, but a big daddy can be comforting.
Oh, and seems that some of them will die for the wall considering the age and shape those folks are in. Do they get their names carved on it?

(333 posts)He's already missed his self-imposed deadline. Now he wants to take peoples land for something we don't even need. A rationalization based on a politicized lie. if he hires contractors to build the border wall at $100 million, and the contractor brings in the build at say $30 million, what happens to the other $70 million? does it go back to the government or does it get kicked back to trump inc.? My point is that I believe he's stealing government money! Private companies do it all the time. The overcharge the government for everything and pocket the profits. Trump forced the pentagon to hire a contractor for the wall who is shady and a criminal. the pentagon warned trump this guy was crooked, but trump insisted that they give him the bid. Why?

(14,593 posts)Do you ever wonder why they call the government taking land away from a private citizen by the term 'escheat?'
Because in this case Trump is CHEATING these people out of their land to waste our tax dollars on an utterly unnecessary wall.
Not only should this not be permitted, but all of the disgusting, illegal private for-profit concentration camps dotting our country to 'house' immigrants need to be SHUT DOWN.

(4,490 posts)Trump found a loophole. Basicaly it's deciding a lot of the rules don't apply to him. He's been doing prep work for this for awhile now. People have stepped out of their homes to already find surveyors on their property, and he told his aides to just go ahead and seize the land illegally because he would just pardon them.

But I have no idea if we have an independent judiciary any longer.

(4,490 posts)My gut feeling is that he won't fully commit to the more egregious crime of following through with illegal land seizures until he sees if GOP court packing results in a legal victory, and finds another scheme to get money from somewhere quickly. Until then, it will be more minor steps across that line.

Just to let Trump know that this is not going away UNTIL he is out of office period.
The proverbial thorn in the side.
Of course that just my opinion of at least one way to continue to keep 45 in the news right up until election day 2020.
