to ask me if I had heard Michelle's speech last night. I told her I had and she told me how impressed she was and she was looking forward to hearing Bill Clinton. Then she said she supposed she was going to have to vote for the Democrats this time because the Republicans have really disappointed her.
*jaw drops* I'm speechless for a moment. So I told her to hang up because Clinton was coming up and she couldn't listen to him talking to me.
WOOT!!! I hope this is catching in conservative circles.

(7,365 posts)The Republican Party soon becomes a niche party of racists, militants, theocrats and Libertarian wankers...while the more sane thinking Republicans push their party into a moderate/sane direction leaving the whackos in their mentally challenged enclaves.
I have no respect for the Repuke Party, it's odious and corrupt. I am glad to see President Clinton mention Ike Eisenhower and I was glad to see Elizabeth Warren talk of Teddy Roosevelt. It's funny, two proud Republicans basically would be Democrats today. And forget about what Abe Lincoln would be. So the Reps are left with Hoover and the latest cadre of far right extremists.
The history of the Republican Party is a proud and worthwhile history, but the current Rep Party is hostile toward monopoly busting (protecting the free market), fair living wages, interstates, strong public education, safe environment, etc...thus they have no legacy. Their party started with St. Ronnie.

(75,480 posts)because of the Great Depression. I was a teenager during Ike's administration and my parents did like him, but then so did a lot of Democrats because he got us out of the Korean War and we had peace up until VietNam in the sixties. I became a Democrat because I didn't like Nixon and my parents did. They eventually learned to dislike him too. If they had lived beyond the seventies, they probably would have become Democrats. They weren't bat shit crazy and believed in taking care of the least of us. My dad collected Social Security and used Medicare in his final years. My mother died too young, but was able to get Social Security disability before she died. They understood the need of social safety nets. They approved of public schools. They would never understood the party of Romney/Ryan.

(75,480 posts)Neither of us was political back then, but I became more liberal over the years and she became more conservative. She went to work for the military industrial complex or an aircraft manufacturer that made military hardware, so she was under that influence which made her into a Republican. I on the other hand was working in liberal bastions like UCLA. She was never coo coo nuts or racist though.

I remember seeing lots of McCain bumper stickers even before the GOP convention in 2008. I'm not so sure the base is just all that passionate about Rmoney.

(6,169 posts)As red as my area is, I'm seeing Obama stickers daily. I'm lovin' it!
I have seen a couple of anti-Obama stickers, but only a couple. And not one Romney. The Cons are driven by hatred of the president more than support for Romney.

(3,069 posts)from what I have seen and heard. My Romney sticker count is now up to four, mostly seen in a nearby wealthy neighborhood - Highland Park, if you are familiar with Dallas. (Three big SUVs and today on a Prius! LOL) It is weird not to see republican stickers all over, and yard signs. I see at least four or five Obama-Biden stickers a day.
Are you in Ft Worth area? Tarrant and Collin are the reddest counties I know, but I am not so well versed outside of DFW metro.

(3,190 posts)I live in Coppell and same story here...I haven't seen a single R/R bumpersticker and not a single rethug yard sign. Plenty of down-ticket signs, but nada for R/R.
Weird...usually see all sorts, as was the case for McCain and dubya.

(3,069 posts)I don't get outside of Loop 12 or especially 635 very often, so have no idea what is going on out there. I asked a friend out in H-E-B and he reports the same thing, which is surprising. We need to find someone in Plano/Frisco to see what the status is out there in red, red Collin Co. I think a lot of folks are going to sit out this election. Obama may not win Texas, but I think it will be closer than 2008 and way closer than what is predicted for 2012, especially if Ron Paul and his posse go to the Libertarians. We shall see.

(20,795 posts)But it will never sink in that Barack's policies are so close to Bill's. I think there are just people who can't stand the fact that the black man bested them. I also think it's the "clinging to their guns and bibles" remark.
They like Obama, but they feel the have to hate him, even though they like him.
It's so wierd.
