This was the leading letter to the editor for tomorrow's local newspaper:
The Republican agenda is pro-woman
For those who can't understand how any woman could possibly vote Republican:
Many women believe that marriage is, and should remain, the union of one man and one woman, regardless of their compassion for same-sex couples.
Many women believe that abortion is far too common and that it should not be used as a form of birth control or be paid for with tax dollars.
Many women are concerned about the present administration's assault on religious beliefs and practices, regardless of claims to the contrary. Removing a reference to God in the 2012 Democratic platform was not a surprise.
Many women are concerned about the recent growth in the national debt and reject the philosophy that unrestricted spending will fix it.
Many women reject the idea that bigger government is better government. They support traditional families and conservative values and think it is time for a change.

Actually, the latest Gallup poll shows 56% of American women support marriage equality. However, Gallup found 44% of women pro-life, 46% pro-choice. Splitting by age group though, 50% of women 18-49 were pro-choice (vs. 55% pro-life for the 50-plus crowd). A [link:abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=120953|poll from 2001] found that 61% of women supported legal abortion rights under some circumstances.
And the letter writer should be grateful that the Democrats caved and restored God to the platform to appease people who probably would never vote Democrat in the first place.
Where does that "abortion is way too common" point of view come from anyway?

(14,337 posts)3. We older women seem to be the most "militant"
Maybe because we know firsthand what life was life for females back in the "good old days." Married 38 years to the same man, and have two daughters. I do not want them to EVER experience what I did as a young woman.
I guess I don't exist according to them. A MOTHER who is prochoice, and married longer than most of them, and supports marriage equaility? Impossible!!!!!!!!

The difference is that we don't hate those who don't share those values.
