But over the past few days, he's proven he's just as much a badass.
The Democratic team is doing us proud!

Collins can sure dish it out but he can't take it.
And they say women are emotional!!

(58,785 posts)Doug Collins' acting out Schiff-style. It won' tpost open, unfortunately, but my husband and I got a big kick out of it. We're CA transplants, and Collins, very sad to say, is our GA congressman.

I don't know where he gets the energy, I'm only about 150 and I don't know if I could have kept the schedule he has this week.
saidsimplesimon
(7,888 posts)I have not followed Representative Nadler's personal struggles with obesity. He is to be admired for standing up and getting the vote done.

(18,486 posts)Less serious, more partisan, much more prone to showboating and hysterics. They're more difficult to manage. Nadler's dealing with a considerably more corrigible group than Schiff is, so he comes off as less effective.
Bettie
(16,078 posts)hysteria in any case.
I can't imagine how stupid someone would have to be to watch them and say "YES! That's the behavior I love to see in my elected representatives!".

(25,952 posts)There's much less discipline among the Judiciary Repubs. Almost all of them turned up the angry rhetoric to 11. Yikes, I don't know how any of the Majority got through it without a mute button.

But it's kind of a big "if".
Boris Johnson just won a landslide victory in the U.K., and it makes me wonder how much certainty any of us can have about Trump in 2020. Everyone here knows what a monster Trump is and I pray we're not alone, a choir singing to itself. But It looked, didn't it, like Johnson was going down? Like the good and wise and well informed and thoughtful voters of the U.K. would vote his sad and saggy are out of government? When push came to shove, they voted to keep him rather than to risk a change that might well have been the last chance to save the U.K. from coming apart at the seams.
So, yep, I'm feeling way out of sorts this morning and may be hitting my Guinness Stout before, during, and after lunch.

(2,412 posts)I still have trouble believing that Brits voted themselves out of better public transportation, free university education, help for families caring for their elderly and all the goodies they were offered. Instead they chose to isolate on their island and enjoy the buffoon clown show. Johnson is right out of the British Vaudeville tradition!!!!!

(1,402 posts)Oh, boy.............I couldn't believe it when I read Boris Johnson won!!! I thought he was out for good!! It makes me wonder if the same people that wanted our dingbat DJT in office helped Johnson win. We will never know the circumstances behind both of these idiots getting elected (maybe Russia). I just hope the sane people in the USA will get rid of all these creeps at least in the USA!! Go Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, Pelosi, Swalwell and the rest will continue to fight for us!!

He has been spectacular last week and this week. Yes, he's a badass, just ignoring most of the crap the republicans have been throwing at him Wednesday night and today.

(4,980 posts)He's pretty freakin' good at staying on tip through all the republicans' shenanigans. I like his serious thoughtfulness, as opposed to the repugs uniform insincerity and open betrayal of their oath.

(54,302 posts)I usually can never make these things, as I usually can't go running over to North America every time someone wants to celebrate something. But this one time, it was in Washington, and I WAS going to be in Washington that day. The weekly that Katrina edits, The Nation, is the country's oldest continually published political magazine, and she knows EVERYBODY. The Nation was founded right after Lincoln's assassination in 1865.
My brother drove. He, my wife and I got there early. Katrina greeted us at the door, and I figured, this being Washington, maybe a few other people I knew or recognized might show up. A few???? I turned out to be one of the token nobodies invited. Mostly, there were somebodies!
Here is a partial list I remember off the top of my head: E.J Dionne, Eleanor Clift, Dennis Kucinich, Raúl Grijalva, Elizabeth Warren, Jerry, Rev. William Barber, Cecile, Stephanie Schriock, John Nichols. Give me some time, and I might remember the rest. My coolest accomplishment that night was asking Rev. Barber if he had been approached to speak at the Democratic Convention the next year (2016). He said he had not. I asked him if he'd be willing, and he said he'd be honored. I contacted a friend who was DNC treasurer, and the next thing I knew, Barber was going to be speaking at the Convention!

(16,616 posts)Some of that criticism of Nadler rubbed me the wrong way. They all can't be Adam Schiff. But each of our Dems has certain gifts and strengths and they are all working around the clock and deserve our gratitude. They've accomplished an incredible amount in a short period of time. The immense stress has probably (hopefully not) taken a few years off of their lives.

lunatica
(53,410 posts)to think everything is some sort of competition where peoples differences are seen as making them losers and/or winners in some game in which the critics are the arbitrators. Someone must always end up at the top and someone must always end up at the bottom of the game. Critics actually think theyre of such high caliber themselves that they can stand in judgement of people who are much better than they are.
Its quite tiresome.
Unfortunately its an American pastime.
