The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) announced on Wednesday that it has raised $1 million through grassroots donations for the Massachusetts Senate campaign of consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren.
The announcement by PCCC comes as Warren, a favorite of progressive Democrats, is set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte Wednesday. The group said that the $1 million raised came from 50,000 donors with an average donation of $16.
Warren has been a rock-star fundraiser, mostly thanks to her appeal to liberal and progressive Democrats across the country. She has raised more than $28 million since declaring on Sept. 14, 2011, that she will challenge Republican Sen. Scott Brown in Massachusetts. Small donors, like many of those giving through PCCC, have given $12 million to her campaign -- a very high 43 percent of her total.
PCCC was one of the first groups to push for Warren to enter the Senate race in Massachusetts. The group launched a "Draft Warren" campaign in July 2011 and raised $100,000 for her campaign before she ever announced.
