The female MAGAt at the Trump PA rally is *WHY* impeachment is good, politically

She was interviewed on MSNBC and said she was near tears about "her President being impeached".

His fans know this is a stain on him (and by projection, they feel, on them as well).

His base is going to be angry and defiant.

But the stain of impeachment doesn't ever wash off. It is still going to be the first line of Bill Clinton's obituary. And he was popular!

But this will nag at every voter in 2020, even if he is acquited, especially independent voters.

Remember, even though Bill Clinton had 65% approval when he left office.... the voters in the 2000 election effectively split 50-50 between Bush and Gore. There were a *LOT* of people who were against Clinton's impeachment and approved of him, who apparently voted for Bush in 2000.

There are *LOTS* of independent voters who... while they may be against impeachment... feel the shame of an impeached President and WILL NOT vote for him, if given an acceptable alternative.

"Trump Fatigue" is a real thing. Independent voters are exhausted by the constant churn of controversy. They will vote for a change, just to get their daily lives back to normal where they don't have to think about the President every day.

every democratic President from here forth. Bill Clinton's impeachment was a sham, a $62 million circle jerk for rePuticans to get their jollies, but had no basis in reality.

You could run the Pope as a democratic candidate and the KGOP would instantly be calling for their impeachment as well. It's become a badge of honor when anti-American rePuticans get mad at democrats. Means we must be doing positive things for the American people.

The Trump true believers might be mainly unreachable, but not a who voted for Trump did so because of his open racism.

My favorite part of this was the bit about independent voters. I think there may also be some, that may have been meh on impeachment, but who will look at the grotesque, obnoxious victory lap he’s going to take after he’s acquitted, and be so put off by that they will feel the need to punish him on their own, at the polls.

I’ve never bought into the idea that the “win” in the senate he’s going to get was the final word, and is only a net positive for him because he can use it on the campaign trail. There are many many layers to this, and that is just one.

When Trump is impeached, they are going to double their donations to him, even if they starve. They will also be sure to vote in November 2020. We need to steel ourselves for a bloody trench warfare fight, they are not going into the night quietly.

Trump won last time because independents couldn't stand Hillary Clinton and held their nose and voted for Trump.

He won't have the Independents this time. *ALL* he has is his base.

His base is not enough.

But I also know that we have elements associated with our party, not necessarily members full time, that are perfectly ok with putting blood in our water, even if that ends up helping Trump. That is the reality that we face, you can whistle past that graveyard if you want, I prefer to stay laser focused on MAGATS as a major threat to the country and will do what is necessary to defeat Trump in 2020.

Bush v Gore was not as narrow as it seems. There was a lot of interference at voting sites, not to mention the FL fiasco and the purging of qualified voters from lists. Without that interference Gore had the electoral votes needed to win. So Gore won the electoral vote as well as the popular vote.. The only way they could put Bush in the WH, even after Clinton's impeschment, was the same way they got Trump there. Cheating and subverting the election process.
