(2,517 posts)What a sad fucking state of affairs in this country that this is such a regular occurrence.
Impressed with how calm the on-site officers are as they're reporting back with what type of body armor they're wearing and the positions they are taking up. Hopefully no more bloodshed.......

(21,424 posts)I honestly think there should be. People would say that is incredibly morbid and offensive. I agree. And that is the point. Maybe if we sunk that low it would actually offend people enough to make a change.

(16,616 posts)Early reports described it as an "ambush" but early reports are notoriously incorrect.
Your theory would also account for there being two shooters, since it's unusual for two active shooters to work together (not unheard of, just unusual).

(12,092 posts)2 armed robbers whose plan went sideways and decided they weren't going to be taken alive.
Could be career criminals who knew, if caught, they were going to spend the rest of their lives in prison, so they figured they had nothing to lose by taking on the cops.
Of course this is all speculation.

Terrifying , you innocently go down to shop at the bodega, and you are dead
I can hear the gunshots. It's like firecrackers going off," said Andy Patel, who works at a liquor store about three blocks from the scene.
"They were shooting like crazy about an hour ago. Then it stopped for like 20 or 30 minutes. The cops were clearing everyone off the streets

A shootout in Jersey City has left several people dead, including one police officer, after local reports said two gunmen fired on authorities.
The Hudson County Prosecutors Office confirmed the officer fatality and advised residents to avoid the block where the shooting unfolded Tuesday afternoon. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said there were multiple deceased in a building where authorities and suspects exchanged fire.
Live video from the scene showed a large police response and scores of heavily armed officers. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Newark said its agents were responding to reports of an active shooter in the northeastern New Jersey city, which sits between Newark and the southern tip of Manhattan.
The locus of the shooting was a convenience store near Martin Luther King Drive and Bidwell Avenue, near Sacred Heart School, where staff locked the school down, a spokeswoman told The Washington Post.

(21,646 posts)According to three senior law enforcement officials, the shoot-out began as a homicide investigation. The deceased officer approached suspects in that investigation and was shot and killed. The suspects then fled into the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket on Martin Luther King Drive, where the standoff started around 12:30 p.m.

They may well be, but really we shouldnt put out a lot of false information.
Someone already posted in this thread that the officer was killed by friendly fire, which does not appear to be true.

(2,039 posts)"The two people who stormed a kosher grocery store in Jersey City with rifles, killing three people inside and also murdering a veteran detective, have been identified as David Anderson and Francine Graham, four law enforcement sources familiar with the case tell News
Who Are Jersey City Shootout Suspects?
Three sources say Anderson was a one-time follower of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, a group whose members believe they are descendants of the ancient Israelites and may adhere to both Christian and Judaic beliefs. There was a note with religious writings in the U-Haul he and Graham allegedly drove to the scene, but a motive -- including any alleged nexus to hate or terror remains under active investigation, officials say.
Law enforcement sources had no immediate details on Graham, but a neighbor tells News 4 she lived near him for years. The neighbor described Graham as a former home health aide in Manhattan who met Anderson after she got hurt at work and quit; he says Graham turned into a "dark person" after they met."

(1,904 posts)According to three sources, Anderson was a one-time follower of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, whose members believe they are descendants of the ancient Israelites and may adhere to both Christian and Judaic beliefs, and his social media pages include anti-police and anti-Jewish writings. Investigators are looking to see if it was Anderson himself who posted that material.
Inside the van used by Anderson and Graham was a note with religious writings, the three sources said.
