(11,725 posts)I am relieved and gratified that the House, at least the Democratic side of the House, has continued in its diligence to defend the Constitution and the country. I however, am not dancing. I understand why people would be happy. It seems Trump is finally getting consequences for a lifetime of corruption.
For me, it isn't a point of celebration mainly because the process is not over yet, and because our system right now, appears to be so broken that a man like Trump could have a chance to be elected in the first place. Trump is a unique asshole in American history, but the attitudes that put him within reach of the position he occupies is long standing, and we still need to deal with them. We need to deal with a Republican party and Conservative movement that is willing to side with a foreign adversary rather than work with our institutions to protect the nation.
If the GOP is swept away in the next election then I will dance, at least for the moment. Then we can begin the process of rebuilding and trying to live up to American ideals.
Again, I have no problem with the celebrations, I just don't feel it right now.

(8,790 posts)It is un-fathomable to witness the depth of depravity and absolute corruption we are seeing. Is there a bottom????
The current Republican Party is the most thoroughly corrupt political party (by far) in the history of our nation.
The Republicans have become a truly Fascist Party, with absolutely no respect for the constitution or for the Rule Of Law......
I am not at all looking forward to what is sure to happen on Nov 3 & 4, regardless of who wins......think about it......
I hope everyone kept their stuff from the Y2K scare, you may need it more on Nov 3-4.........

That cancer will still be trying to kill us long after Trump is gone.
And then, their kids will take over with more of the same.

(20,142 posts)I find this all very stressful. Even IF he's successfully impeached, I'm concerned about the aftermath.
