Out of all we sell nothing is more closely tied to the treats we share to show our love for each other than Vanilla. Now seems the time to do what we can to get more of that love out into the world to counter the ever more desperate criminal mindset that has taken hold of the right.
And yes, Thanks Obama! The Vanilla plant is a member of the orchid family and is most delicate. The tropical islands were most of the worlds supplies are grown can offer the most limited of protection to the ever more powerful storms climate change is producing. The only real hope for our grandchildren to be able to afford natural Vanilla is in stopping the effects of climate change. The Paris Climate Accord that America signed onto under the Obama administration is our best chance for doing just that. Last month the current administration, in what might be its crowning act of cruelty, announced plans for Americas withdrawal from the accord. We have to be better than this.
Until we can restore sanity in our leadership, please do what you can to share extra love with those around you.
(No link to Penzey Spices, Ive gotten bounced for that in the past. Sorry)

(492 posts)It's Bill Penzey. He's awesome and his business, Penzeys spices, deserves to be supported. Not just because he's a great American but because, DAMN, those spices are soooooo good. I had to convert an old 5 shelf CD holder to a spice rack!
If we're going to boycott companies who support the regressive policies of the right, we need to support companies that espouse real American values.

It is Penzey, by the way, producer of about a third of our herbs and spices at home.

(15,536 posts)Ordered a couple Christmas gifts for my family and a bottle of that good vanilla for my holiday baking.
P.S. Why is vanilla so expensive these days?

(3,469 posts)I forget exactly what it was but I'm pretty sure it's one of the many things suffering from climate change. I know Bill was really agonizing over raising prices. That's one of the things he tries to give a good discount on, several times a year. You will be amazed at some of the specials he runs.
