MSNBC Wins Primetime Convention Ratings For The First Time Ever
MSNBC celebrated a major milestone on Wednesday when it topped its rivals in primetime convention ratings for the first time in its 16-year history.
TVNewser was the first to report the news. An MSNBC spokesperson confirmed that it was the network's first-ever convention victory, and the first-ever time that it beat its rivals head-to-head while all three were covering the same political event.
MSNBC's victory came on the first night of the Democratic convention in Charlotte. The network was first in both total viewers (4.107 million) and in the coveted 18-49 demo (1.432 million.) CNN came in second, with 3.88 million and 1.368 million in both categories. Fox News trailed far behind, drawing just 2.398 million total viewers and 550,000 in the demo -- a far cry from its ratings on the first night of the Republican convention, when it drew a whopping 9.1 million viewers.

(30,439 posts)This tells me that folks are tuning out CNN and Faux News in favor of MSNBC in increasing numbers because they're tired of being fed bullshit.

(11,243 posts)We started the evening with CNN, but they had very little of the actual convention, it was mostly talking heads. MSNBC was way better, not breaking in and out of the speeches.

(50,629 posts)and MSNBC beat out the rivals. I'd say that says it all on who can bring in the viewers and it is NOT David "dances with Rove" Gregory, not by a long shot, it is Rachel Maddow and her guests.

They showed the more important speeches. Good job Rachael and Company.

(9,748 posts)The top drawing cable news network for the DNC had about half as many vieweres as the top drawing cable news network had for the RNC. Yet, the DNC outdrew the RNC. Which means....
The top drawing cable news network still pales in comparison to broadcast news.
Political junkies pay so much attention to cable news. I figure it is a good idea to recall from time to time that very few people actually watch cable news. Broadcast TV news reaches a much broader audience.

(11,816 posts)It sucked. There was this bitchy little person snarking at everything. Ugh. Turned it off, turned on the teevee and went with MSNBC.

(11,816 posts)I love 95% of what's on there. And you're right, if Romney is elected, they will slash funding even further. My own station in a major city will be okay.
The people in the boonies? Not so much.

(5,901 posts)But the bulk of last evening was on PBS. PBS has a full screen with no logos, scrolling text, etc., and they show every speech live with better close ups. I clicked on MSNBC during Strickland's barn-burner last night and they had the talking heads on. Back to PBS. I avoid CNN like the plague -- Gergen, Borger and Fleischer, OH MY!

(38,611 posts)I actually was trying to get in some opposition research this morning by watching what Faux News had to say. They were talking about negativity.
Seriously... they said the Dem Convention was full of negativity.
(Thanks for playing, folks, we have some nice parting gifts for you.)
