Actual headline: "God out of Democratic platform"

http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20120905/US.CVN.Democratic.Platform.God

The Democratic Party's platform makes no reference to God, drawing criticism from Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.

Ryan tells Fox News' "Fox & Friends" the change is not in keeping with the country's founding documents and principles and suggests the Obama administration is behind the decision. The Republican platform mentions God 12 times.

The 2008 Democratic Party platform made a single reference to God, referring to the "God-given potential" of working people.

The new platform does contain a plank on faith, saying it "has always been a central part of the American story." The platform says the nation was founded on the principle of religious freedom and the ability of people to worship as they please. It also praises the work of faith-based organizations.

Looks like they're going with the God, guns 'n' gays strategery. The crawl on Faux last night gave an actual count of gay DNC delegates, presumably generated by their Gay-O-Meter 3000(TM).

but since we had it in the 2008 platform I think they should have just left it in. I'm just being purely pragmatic. God is always a hot button with the Right.

This sort of reporting will carry weight with the person who thinks that recognizing gay marriage will call down the wrath of God. They already 'know' our party has abandoned Him. This article will reinforce that knowledge. Will it sway still unswayed minds? I think not.

Sep 2012

Uh, excuse me buddy, but some of us ARE.

Would it be okay to go on FOX and say "Democrats are NOT Gay!"

No, it wouldn't. Because aside from the obvious truth that, actually, some Democrats ARE Gay, it would imply that there is something wrong with being Gay, and there isn't.

Durbin's comments imply that there is something wrong with being Godless- and there isn't.

Although even here on DU, a couple folks have been allowed to get away with promoting asshat theories about Atheists being inherently less moral- a position which, along with other forms of stealth advocacy of the religious right- ought to be grounds for PPR'ing, to my mind.
