Approximately 23 years ago Richard Jewell got royally screwed after the Atlanta Olympics bombing...

Now in the age of Trump and conservative authoritarian attacks on the media....we get a Clint Eastwood movie about him.

Do I smell a propagandist rat or is my tinfoil beanie on too tight?

"Drafted into the Army during the war in Korea, Eastwood was sent to Ft. Ord in California for basic training. He lucked into a job as a swimming instructor and remained at Ft. Ord."

Actually as I read it he was a pool boy and eye candy for the officer's wives. Given a chance he romanced the base commanders daughter and SURPRISE-when he plays a combat veteran-well,that's acting!

It's going to portray Jewell as a victim of an overzealous media who decided he was guilty before getting any of the facts. There's also a lot of "big government is bad" stuff in it too, but I forget how it plays into the story.

Particularly since he died more than ten years ago. But they will try anyway.

I was right next to what was called the Tabernacle that was converted into the House of Blues for the Olympics, I was in a big top tent watching James Brown play. The concert was stopped and I exited the tent with my friends to a slow, stunned frenzy, and the city erupted in sirens.

Good grief when I sit and think about it, I recall it vividly.

was NOT the media’s shining moment, for sure, and this is a legit movie subject. I doubt when they OKd the movie however many years ago it takes to make a movie they planned to release it during Trump’s impeachment proceedings.

Richard Jewell was convicted by the media, especially after his name was leaked by Janet Reno's DOJ.

He was damn near railroaded by the FBI.

In 1997, after the then US attorney general Janet Reno offered him an apology, Jewell sued a number of media outlets. NBC, whose Tom Brokaw had told audiences that the FBI "probably have enough evidence to arrest"; CNN, which had used a psychologist to announce that Jewell fitted the profile of a "lone bomber"; and the New York Post, which called him a "fat, failed former sheriff's deputy", all settled out of court. The Journal-Constitution fought back, claiming they had merely reported what the FBI was investigating.
