is that it was originally said by Ronald Reagan, who then set into motion a right wing fantasy that pretty much guaranteed that Americans would never be able to answer "yes" to that question again.

They are the ones who promote mandatory minimum sentences for possessing any Mary Jane.
They do this to fill the beds in their private prisons.
They profit on imprisoning citizens and from "allowing" them to work for 12 cents an hour.
Slave labor is alive and living in Corporate Murika.

By sheer proportions, we're easily better off now.

I never really thought the purpose of government is to make me, personally, "better off".

(5,068 posts)In the six months before the president was elected, we lost 3.5 million jobs, today weve created 4.5 million private sector jobs. The stock market was at 8,457 - today its over 13,000 and today the US auto industry is the number one auto industry in the world.
Add to that the early impact of ObamaCare on the most at risk Americans and the answer is a resounding yes.
