And in some versions "you knew what I was" is a second lesson.

Btw, those fables are something like 2500 years old and they're believed to have been ancient wisdom then. How marvelous that Aesop's are still with us. This one reportedly first appeared in ancient Sanskrit. Times and places change, but not human nature. There's a market for Maher's schtick and it's made him wealthy.

A few weeks ago he was pretty much using Mitt Romney's take that all Democrats want any more is "free stuff". Which is bizarre considering he once gave $1 million to Obama so he could beat Mitt Romney. I think it was last week he was bashing unions. He's a joke.

He's been an asshole for at least the past few decades, but DU-at-large has had two responses:

1. When he zings Conservatives, DU says "this is the kind of fearless commentary we need, and that the media doesn't give us."

2. When he coddles child molesters, or anti-vax zealotry, or spews sexist bullshit, as he frequently does, DU shrugs and says: "what do you expect? He's just a comedian."

He is also really, really misogynistic and a major Islamaphobe. It is always interesting and odd to em that so many liberals watch and like him.

I kid.

Not.

It was in the news, and since he prides himself on being a cynic, he just assumed there was some truth to it (ironically).

Remember, this is a guy who chides the audience whenever one of his jokes falls flat.
