(2,227 posts)That is the difference between a party that listens and a party that will do anything it can NOT to listen, because it wants to be the party of ABSOLUTE POWER.
They only reason the republican party needs the people, are as gullible rubes, who will believe any lie put before them.
And apparently it is working.
Elijah Cummings will be a high standard to be met, for any politician.
Issa is a joke.

(9,426 posts)Surely the people in his district saw enough of his loutish behavior the last few years? He is an unindicted FELON. Car thefts, arson fires. He fits in well with the gop, though, gotta admit. The gop has never had, nor will ever have a representative of the high caliber of Elijah Cummings. The DREGS run for office as repubs.

(4,923 posts)He is carpetbagging to challenge Duncan Hunter who is under indictment. Sad thing is this is very red district and he could win.

(39,345 posts)I especially admired the way he dealt with Issa. Put him back on his heels more than a few times, which is hard to do with unapologetic assholes.

(6,161 posts)Thanks to another DU poster I have been corrected It was not Elijah Cummings but John Lewis.
Both great men. Who marched. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selma_to_Montgomery_marches
Apologies for the mistake. Thank you for the correction.
In 1966 I was stationed in Montgomery Alabama at an Air Force training school. Although as a trainee we were restricted to base. I didn't realize until years later that I was that close to the history that was made there. I was eighteen at the time.

(47,254 posts)Issa was infuriatingly smug and rude. They still have the mentality of schoolyard bullies, never growing past the age of ten.
So glad you posted this. Cummings was an extraordinary person and should be remembered for his character and courage.

(81,098 posts)A patriot to the very end. Something Issa and his lying, cheating, sniveling, cowardly buddies on that side of the aisle really can never understand. When all youre in it for is money and power and domination, you wont even get near where patriots like Elijah Cummings stood.
