(23,003 posts)I keep getting tears in my eyes and waves of sadness. Cummings is only 1 year older than me, so this seems incredibly young and way too soon to have him taken away. There's so much going on and we need his able leadership, but now it's missing and it just makes me really sad from the meta level to the personal one that his family is feeling right now - it's all just so sad to me.
So the massive amount of work goes on to hold Russia's bent rusty tool accountable for trying (again) to get assistance for his presidential campaign from a foreign country and extorts them to do this! I hope thoughts of "what would Chairman Cummings do?" helps guide their actions.
Salute to a true hero of the country and inspiration to all!!

(18,670 posts)This hurts. What an amazing 68 years of life this man lived, and were all the better for it. I hope he continues to inspire, because we need so many more people to be like him.

(4,832 posts)Throughout the whole rise of the corrupt right-wing establishment, I have been inspired by civil rights leaders like Elijah Cummings and John Lewis.
I have a picture of a young John Lewis after being beaten silly to remind me that the battles we are fighting will not be solved overnight, and we must be willing to get "beat up" over and over again, even if only psychically, until we get to justice. We MUST persist, no matter how many times they bloody our noses.
I am devastated at Mr. Cummings' death at this moment in our history. May his example give all of us the courage and the will to fight for justice and a better future for all.
We all have to be civil rights activists now.
There will never be another like him. We must carry on the fight for him and the country.
