(4,341 posts)who should know republicans do not care for women unless they are lying naked on the bed, but as rights go? republicans will take them all away from women (they have voted consistently against equal pay), but some clueless women still fight for them. It is almost like the battered wife who can't get away from the abusing husband, its almost as if they suffer from "Stockholm syndrome".

It's no secret that an easy path to success in media is to be a r-w commentator. The money is good because it's put up by corporations. A lot of times the training path is through the r-w think tanks. A lot of people, women included--sad to say--see no farther than their own personal welfare.

(14,558 posts)Silly me, I'd much rather have free or subsidized college than a $733 billion 'defense' budget, a shiny new space force and 200,000 people 'on the ground' in 167 countries.
Healthcare would be nice, too.

(5,518 posts)But I suspect that the increased tax revenue over their lifetime could pay back much (if not all) of the investment.
This is from a combination of under educated people having an opportunity to earn more and from graduates having more spending power because of lack of debt.
I actually am not a big fan of "free for all" because some people should pay if they can. I say this as someone with a daughter going to college next year and staring down the barrel of a six figure cost.
It should definitely be lower cost by at least 2/3rds. And real aid should increase by an exponent. But I think people with means should still have some skin in the game. Students and families are more likely to take it seriously when it has value attached. But no one should be priced out. Ever.
