Saw it on local Detroit news today.

Main sticking point with GM is their abuse of temps.

employment with GM...very demoralizing to work next to people making so much more than you...and they want to to turn the entire workforce into temp workers.

It is not uncommon for 2 Union hires doing the same job to have hourly rates with a 40% differential. Unions agreed that future hires would be paid less and have no defined pensions or Retiree medical insurance. These changes were agreed to in exchange for keeping the jobs in the US in most cases. At the company I work for most of those Senior hires have retired so the difference in wages and benefits are not so prominent.
