Here are the likely options as I see it:
1. House inquiry does not result in impeachment vote (extremely unlikely but who knows?)
2. House votes to impeach but Senate acquits or avoids a vote altogether (most likely scenario, IMO)
3. Senate convicts Trump and Pence becomes POTUS (only likely if something drastic happens)
4. At some point before Senate conviction vote, Trump resigns (not a chance in hell for that narcissistic a-hole IMO)
5. Other outcome?
Most of my (non-DU) friends are afraid to even be hopeful.
I know some say there's another option: Pence & Trump get impeached and Pelosi becomes POTUS, but as I understand it, the timing would have to be such that both are removed at the same time. Otherwise whoever's POTUS can name a new VP. And I DO think there's a long line of bootlicking thugs who would take the job.

Unless of course, he's ready to rid the (R)s of the albatross that is Donald Trump. But the (R) senators might get voted out by their so-called "base". I doubt the (Rs) will take the chance of losing Senate majority.

(32,681 posts)Even if he's not removed by the Senate, trump will be consumed by anger, bitterness and depression. He'll attack both Democrats and repubs alike. He'll also rat out all of his co-conspirators. His own supporters will eventually become disgusted by the prolonged victim / crybaby act.
Next spring, trump will opt out of all the debates and probably stop holding his own rallies when the crowds diminish. Polls will predict a massive landslide for the Democrats; still, he'll resist the calls to step down for the good of his party.
Finally, the nightmare will end on election day. After the massive defeat, trump won't resign, but he'll depart from the White House, never to return again. He'll say he doesn't need a pardon because he's innocent. With trump absent and uninterested in performing his duties, Pence will be the unofficial president until January 21, 2021.

Oh they'll drag his name through the meat grinder. Maybe even pick off a few more low hanging grapes for the orange jumpsuit brigade. But no chance is he removed nor quits.
I'll be honest, I'm not even sure he loses re-election. Please understand, I think the world of every single one of the Democratic Party candidates. Cream of the Crop... all of them. But the American voter has not left me very hopeful. Add in the shenanigans with voting itself, and meddling too... I'm just not optimistic.
