(42,770 posts)when subpoenas are ignored? Confusing topic. Same with holding Lewandowski in contempt. Remember reading that Pelosi said Nadler should have held Corey in contempt right then and there. Then some here saying he couldn't and would have had to talk to legal counsel. #confusing

House Judiciary Committee weighs holding Lewandowski in contempt
By Manu Raju, CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent
Posted at 12:39 PM ET, Thu September 19, 2019
(CNN) The House Judiciary Committee is preparing to take initial steps to potentially hold former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski in contempt over his refusal to answer questions at this week's hearing before the panel, multiple sources tell CNN.
But it is a process that could take weeks: First, a letter is expected to be sent to Lewandowski asking him to answer questions and warning him he can be held in contempt if he doesn't answer. Then, they may offer a contempt resolution, officially notice a committee vote and then hold a vote in committee before any floor action.
Some Democrats have been irked by the failure to hold Lewandowski in contempt immediately during the hearing, according to Democratic sources. That flies in the face of current House rules that would have made the process quite cumbersome to immediately hold him in contempt at the hearing.
At a private meeting Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the committee should have immediately held Lewandowski in contempt, but doing so would have been an arduous undertaking under House rules. Her office says that Pelosi was merely expressing frustration at Lewandowski -- not the committee.

(18,641 posts)They need something big, clear and understandable.
Something so big that Fox News can't bury it.
Trump has been so cavalier with his criminality that I'm sure it exists.
Since he's terrified of his financed being investigated it's probably in there.
I heard they may have a cache of Deutsche bank docs so perhaps they found something.
Oh I hope.

(19,204 posts)Every day brings more incriminating news for the Giant Orange Toad in the Oval Office, and those syphilitic sycophants who wipe and powder his gigantic ass.
I'm going to have to take a day off soon. I just can't keep up with all of this. I'm losing sleep, and I never used to get that much anyway. Just one day to sleep, relax, and not log on to my computer, watch the news, or listen to the radio. Now Rachel just said that Hillary is going to be on her show tomorrow night, so I guess It'll have to be Thursday. Maybe.

(31,011 posts)I know Nadler said it was, but it seemed to me that few took his assertion seriously.
It wasn't serious until Pelosi determined that.
Plus, the Ukraine scandal falls right in Schiff's wheelhouse. It's why he's got the lead rather than Nadler.

(42,770 posts)Could have done. The Republicans were hell bent to disrupt using the committee's own procedures. Should Nadler have anticipated that? And not done the 5 min questioning (did he have to?)? Do you think the shift to Schiff means they won't include other non-Ukraine Articles?

(42,770 posts)all seemed to shift to Schiff. Wonder if that means we will only impeach with Ukraine crimes?

(18,641 posts)I'm sure it will be one more step forward towards impeachment but not the big revelation that shatters the dam.
There have been too many times that seemed like there would be a major breakthrough that would settle things but it never does.
I expect an announcement that will reveal one more shocking detail of egregious, illegal, immoral, unconstitutional behavior.
Dems will condemn, and Reps will attack Dems of the same charges, cry "Hillary's emails!" and everything goes back to stasis.
I don't believe anything could be shocking enough to change this pattern until the election.

(31,011 posts)That they found serious wrongdoings by Pompeo.
But my thinking lies towards serious threats towards the WB.
I think whatever they announce will be newsworthy, but likely not earth-shattering.
It would be helpful for evidence that is incontrovertible implicating Barr, Pompeo and Trump, but I'm not getting my hopes up on anything.
All we can do is sit and wait.
I do like speculating sometimes.
