Kurt Volker, US Special Envoy has resigned

Volker was the US Ambassador to NATO under Obama.

On September 26, 2019, the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence released the unclassified text of the "whistle-blower complaint" regarding the interactions between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In this document, Ambassador Volker, along with US Ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, were described as having "reportedly provided advice to the Ukrainian leadership about how to 'navigate' the demands that the President had made of Mr. Zelenskyy". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Volker

It's unclear if he really did anything wrong besides advising Ukraine on how to deal with a corrupt, lunatic President. His Senate testimony should be interesting.

McCain Institute head Kurt Volker steps down as US diplomat

Executive Director of the McCain Institute Kurt Volker resigned from his position as the U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine Friday, following reports he collaborated with Ukraine and President Donald Trump.

An ASU official confirmed Volker's resignation Friday, and said the University could not speak about his future at ASU because the University does not comment on personnel matters.

Volker met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Friday to announce he would be resigning, the official said.

Volker’s name was mentioned in the recent whistleblower complaint, which has sparked an impeachment inquiry for Trump. Trump has defended his actions, including a phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky where Trump requested dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden.

WASHINGTON — To hear Rudy Giuliani tell it, it was a phone call from the Trump administration's special envoy for Ukraine, Ambassador Kurt Volker, that jump-started Giuliani's contacts with Ukraine's new leaders over corruption and a possible investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden.

But a whistleblower's complaint made public Thursday paints a different picture: one of Volker scrambling to "contain the damage" to national security inflicted by Giuliani, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, and back-channeling with the Ukrainian leadership about how to navigate the conflicting messages that Giuliani and U.S. officials were sending ...

An unpaid volunteer, Volker spends most of his time engaged in outside projects, including his work at a Washington lobbying firm that continued to represent the government of Ukraine for almost two years after Volker started as special envoy.

Volker’s role in the most recent controversy came to light as Giuliani tried to cast his efforts as fully coordinated and even prompted by the State Department. The State Department has acknowledged that it was Volker who put Giuliani “in direct contact” with Andriy Yermak, a top adviser to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, around the same time as Zelenskiy's call with Trump ...
