The Republican Party has no problem with the executive branch taking the power of the purse

from congress based on dumps “emergency” declaration. There are many more powers contained in such a declaration. Including the suspension of our election. Are we there yet?

1. It isn't the Republican Party... and no he can't

Congress delegated some powers to the executive (some that they shouldn’t have) and every president takes advantage of them. The issue isn’t taking the power of the purse... it’s spending unwisely.

And no... he can’t suspend elections. Congress never delegated that - in large part because it isn’t their power in the first place. States run elections.

2. He IS taking money from the military that Congress voted for them to build his wall.

So yeah he took their power. The only way that changes is if a court blocks it.

3. But that isn't taking the power of the purse from them

Because they gave him the power to redirect some funds if he declared an emergency.

The point here is that the choice to spend the money in the way he has is a bad decision... but it isn't unconstitutional. Congress could remove his authority to do it... but they gave him the authority.

The only way that changes is if a court blocks it.

Which isn't going to happen. SCOTUS slapped it down with a presumption that the suing group didn't even have standing.
