Trump rolls back regulations on energy-saving lightbulbs

The Trump administration on Wednesday announced that it will roll back requirements for more energy-efficient lightbulbs, introducing a set of rules that could lead to increased greenhouse gas emissions that accelerate global warming.

The filing from the Energy Department would prevent new efficiency requirements from implementation on Jan. 1 under a previous law passed in 2007 during President George W. Bush’s administration. That law phased out inefficient incandescent and halogen bulbs, and was approved with bipartisan support in Congress.

The law passed during GWB is being rolled back. GWB was too environmental for this president. Let that sink in.

1. In the grand scheme of things it probably won't matter that much...

Last time I was in my local Lowe's, the LED aisle was longer than the incandescent aisle anyway.

This is more of a publicity stunt than anything. Impresses the rubes, but most folks I know have already switched over.

The manufacturers supply the whole world now. Not just the USA. We don't have the influence people think we do anymore.

(built in 1961), I looked at the previous owner's electric bill. The house is large, and had incandescent lights in all rooms (70 bulbs, plus floods), and a vintage 1980s thermostat. In the Summer months, he was burning 1.5-2.2 MWh of electricity a month (1,500-2,200 kWh) running the lights, A/C. etc. I replaced all the bulbs with LEDs, put in a smart thermostat, and installed smart switches in all the rooms. My Summer bill has not exceeded 1MWh (1,000 kWh). Oh, and my electrical load also covers two EVs, which his didn't.

Conservation/efficiency is cheap, and can make a massive impact on your energy use and cost.

didn't need to, and it didn't really do anything for me since the utilities are included with the rent.

I just figured it was a good idea.

Oh, and it's less heat in the summer-no A/C, ya know.

7. I suppose a ban on LED and CF bulbs will be done via A Trump Executive order?

And, since China has effectively killed the florescent bulb for domestic use, Trump will issue an Executive Order to demand GE and Westinghouse to immediately restart florescent bulb production in the states. We will need a lot more coal burning power plants to cover the increased electrical demand, too
